“Of course not. That’s not until April and that’s too far away. I’m coming down this weekend, I hope you don’t mind,” She told me in a serious tone.
“No, not at all! I’ll have to ask my dad, but I’m sure it’d be fine,” I told her.
We went about our conversation; I realized how much I missed L.A. I didn’t have many friends at school, really only Cassidy. Everyone else thought I was too weird or different for them, but that’s why Cassidy liked me. Cassidy and I are a lot alike. She’s never really had a boyfriend, but that doesn’t mean she’s ugly. She is just extremely shy, so she never really made friends.
When I got off the phone with her, it was almost eleven o’clock and I turned my lights out to go to bed. My head hit the pillow and I thought about how my day had gone. I ditched school with Nick to work on a project, he broke up with Skylar for me, he got back together with Skylar, Skylar is pregnant, and I met a hot guy. Not too bad.
I couldn’t stop thinking about James. Sure he didn’t say much, but he’s definitely someone I want to get to know. I’m pretty sure we have a few classes together.
~*~*~
I woke up with next morning with the sun pouring in through my window. I looked at the clock and it was eight o’clock on the dot. I’ve never been one to sleep in, waste your day by sleeping through it?
I got out of bed and walked downstairs to see my dad making a big breakfast, I guess to have a little family celebration about Cindy being here.
“Morning, Peanut. Sleep well?” He asked me as he cracked an egg.
“Yeah, I slept fine,” I yawned, “What’s for breakfast?”
“It’s more like what’s not for breakfast,” Cindy walked in from the living room.
“Very funny. But there’s pancakes, waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, and toast,” My father told me.
“Holy crap. Are you feeding three people or an army?” I joked with him.
I took a seat at the kitchen table after pouring myself a cup of orange juice. I sipped my juice and listened to the pan sizzle. I heard my dad flip over a pancake.
“Hey, dad?” I asked him.
“Huh?”
“Is it okay if Cassidy comes down next Friday?” I asked him as he put toast on the table.
“Sure. I miss seeing the kid, anyway,” He told me as he walked back to the stove to flip pancakes.
“Cassidy? Isn’t that the girl who was always at your house when you lived in L.A.?” Cindy asked me, coming to join my father and me in the kitchen.
“Yep!”
NICHOLAS’S POV
I woke up the next morning; I looked at the clock, 10:43. It’s still early. I walked downstairs and saw Katie on the living room floor playing with Cameron, and my dad reading the newspaper.
“Can I talk to you guys, now?” I asked once I reached them.
“Sure, son, sit down,” My dad pointed to the couch.
I sat down, my mom came in a few seconds later, “What is it, Nick?”
“Well, yesterday, I went over to Skylar’s house to break up with her. I didn’t feel we connected anymore. Well, that’s when she told me she was pregnant,” I told them.
My mother burst into tears, “Nicholas Preston! How could you do that?”
“Nicholas, are you the father of her child?” My father asked.
“Yes sir.”
“I hear my friends talk about how their son got a child pregnant, or how their daughter is pregnant, but I thought I raised you better than that. I never thought you’d become a father before you got married,” My mother said, reaching for a tissue.
“I bought you that box of protection, why didn’t you use that?” My father asked me.
“I don’t know.”
“Well, what are you going to do? You said you broke up with Skylar,” My father asked me, more and more questions.
“We’re back together. But I promise, guys, I’m going to be in my kid’s life. Whether I’m with Skylar or not,” I said, that calmed them a little.
What would I do with a child if Skylar and I weren’t together?
