I looked at myself in the mirror. Trying to understand why I was doing this. Their was no point in it. I had already been to 4 other schools and new that no matter what I did, I was going to get picked on. My eyes looked hollow underneath from the complete lack of sleep I got last night due to fear. It's always the same pattern: Go to school, get bullied, go home.
I sighed, because I knew there was no way around it. I was going to my first day of highschool as a junior. I applied my eyeliner, smudged slightly, as always. I also put it on my water line, because you gotta make a good impression, right? Next, I added a thin layer of mascara, to avoid clumpy eyelashes. I don't even know why I'm putting so much effort into my appearence, it's not like it will make a difference.
"Morning Jay, so ummm...are you excited for your first day of school?"
I reconized the voice automatically. It's my friend Argo, she has lived with me and my mom since I was 15. It was found out that her jerk of a father would beat her almost weekly as a result of alcoholism, because she had no other family, she's living with us. I always had a respect for Argo, because she put up with so much moving all the time. Honestly, I don't know how she puts up with it.
But now I just rolled my eyes. That's such a mom thing to ask someone.
"I'm sure it'll be splendid as always." Argo looked sad for a split second, before saying "Look, I know that you hate going to school because people always pick on you, but I honestly feel like it'll be different this time." I shook my head and pushed back tears, because i honestly belive it won't ever get better and it's a tough subject. But I am not a person to show weakness, so I just put on a tough front and truthfully said, "Doubt it." Argo just huffed and left the room.
I had decided on my outfit of the day the night before: a black tank top with a leather jacket and black skinny jeans. I brushed through my black hair and messed with my fringe. I often think that it's my appearence that makes people not like me. What if I was more preppy and my name wasn't "Jay" what if it was "Stacy" instead, would that make any difference?
Everything was as expected in the aspect of who would be at my school. I found myself surrounded by girls with floral blouses and ugg boots, not that I have a problem with that at all, but I just pray to God that they aren't judgmental is all. As it seems to me that normal people are usually pretty rude when it comes to people not like them.
My classes went by pretty fast. Of course I got the ocasional "person looks at me with fear/interest and looks quickly away" But no bullying. Now I found myself walking to lunch with a feeling of thankfulness that no one has completly ruined my day. I sat down at an empty table and was just about to eat my PB&J before I was startled by someone sitting next to me. She had long blond hair and high cheekbones with round gray eyes. She was clearly pretty, and I have no idea why she would sit next to me. "Hello, are you new?" I shook my head yes, feeling kind of nervous. The girls eyes lit up "Yay! I'm new too. My names Marisol. What's yours?" I smiled, "Hi Marisol, my names Jay." I felt kind of awkward talking to Marisol, she was being way to nice to me. I wasn't used to that. Before I could stop myself, I added "Why are you being so nice to me?" Marisol just laughed. "Why wouldn't I be nice to you?" I then noticed a boy...or are they a girl? Sitting one table away from me. They sat alone, just staring down into there lunch. I felt bad for them. "Who's that?" I said, pointing to the person sitting by themselves. Marisol looked to see where I was pointing. "Oh, that's just Gerard. I talked to him earlier , but he didnt talk back. It's really weird. I guess he's mute and he gets made fun of alot. A friend I just made told me all of this."
Now I felt really bad. I decided that I was going to talk to him tomorrow. I looked at Marisol, who I decided would be my new friend "Let's sit near him tomorrow." Marisol looked at me like that was a bad idea, but clearly very relectantly said yes.
Suddenly, I felt like a huge weight had just been thrown at the back of my neck. My head hit the table and I heard Marisol scream. "I can't believe there's another f***ing emo at this this school." I managed to turn around to see a boy with Brunette hair and almond shaped brown eyes. God da**it. I knew I was never going to not get bullied. I was just suprised that it turned phsycal so quickly. I felt my eyes filling up with tears from the mixture of physical and emotional pain.
"Leave her alone!" Yelled an unknown voice. I looked around and realized that this voice came from the same direction as Gerard.
