Memories

When Anna's parents separated she was only 7 years old. Her mom always told her her dad was the enemy, that it's all his fault. When she saw her dad he didn't talk about her mom. He took the time the court gave him and made the best out of it. He put smiles on Anna and Asher's faces every chance he got. Asher was only 2, he didn't understand anything that was going on.
Their weekends with their dad consisted of playing outside, hang out with their dad's side of the family. With there grandma and grandpa always being there, Anna would hang out and paint with grandpa, while grandma took care of Asher. They didn't know it, but that gave Anna a break.
Meanwhile during the weeks Anna would go to school, come home to her half sister Kelly, and Asher making a mess in the living room, while her mom was asleep on the couch.
Anna had a routine she'd go through everyday. She'd get up at 3 a.m and go deliver papers with her mom. She'd be dropped off about 6am and get ready for school. She'd yell for her sister to get up, as she'd get dressed. They'd walk up the road to the bus stop, and head to school. After school was out and they had reached the bus stop, their mom would be waiting for them seldom. So many afternoons Kelly walked home alone while Anna stopped by the neighbor's house.
The neighbor was an older lady in her late 30's, who had a cute little dog. Her name was Norma, and she would give Anna stuff she didn't need or had no room for. Anna would take it home and get yelled at by her mom because of it. After she reached the driveway in front of their little 3 bedroom apartment, she takes a breathe before she walks in. She'd open the white door and put her backpack on the floor beside the door, and the cups the neighbor lady gave her on the table. She walked into the living room and saw Kelly and Asher sitting on the floor watching the cartoon channel.
"Is everything ok guys?" Anna would ask before going to the kitchen table to do homework. She'd do her homework and then it would be about 5:00. Kelly and Asher come running out to the table asking "what's for dinner?"
Their mom would either be still asleep or would have Anna make hot dogs or spaghetti O's for herself and kids.
Meanwhile later when their mom's boyfriend, Mingo would get off work those two would have steak. There were night when Anna didn't eat much because she didn't want to eat the same things over and over, while Kelly and Asher ate frozen French fries. Anna thought they were disgusting. After dinner Anna would make sure Kelly and Asher would get baths and in bed by 9:00. And at 11:00 her mom left to get Mingo from work.
