Chapter 14

"Done?" He asked when he went back inside, "how'd it go?"

She starting making them both sandwiches, "Darlin', I'm not hungry" Adam said as he sat at the table.

"Don't care, you're eating" she commanded, a smile filling her face.

He laughed softly. "Understood, I'll eat"

"We're going to theirs tomorrow, I didn't tell them. Thought it was best we did it face to face" she explained, "I'm pretty nervous"

He took the plate she offered him, "Can I ask what happened?"

She sat down, putting a napkin in her lap, "It's terrible but I don't remember" she was embarrassed, "I can be pretty stubborn and as a kid I had a bit of a rebellious streak"

Adam pretended to be shocked, "You, my lovely wife. Stubborn? Get the fuck out" he laughed as brought the sandwich to his mouth, realizing he was in fact hungry. Famished would be more like it.

She rolled her eyes at him. "I won't lie the rebellious streak surprises me, and it kind of turns me on a bit" he smirked pushing the plate away.

"You're an idiot" she laughed putting their dishes in the sink, "Are you ready to go back up to the hospital?"

"Yea" he nodded, "let's go see our boy"

"Thanks for sitting with him Josh" Kim said as she hugged her brother in law, "What's Dr.Miller said?"

"They plan on taking him off the vent, sometime today his lungs are looking better, and the antibiotics have really done wonders"

Kim rubbed her son's foot, "good, I hate seeing him like this"

"We all do" Josh placed his hand on her shoulder, "where's Adam?"

She looked over her shoulder, "One of the little girl's down the hall wanted to show him something. He's quite the celebrity you know"

Josh laughed, "Doesn't surprise me at all, everyone loves him."

Kim smiled, "He's my anchor."

Josh winked at her, "You know you're the best thing that ever happened to my brother, I just wish our mother was around to have met you. She would have loved you, you saved my brother. I hope you know that"

"He saved me too"

THE NEXT DAY

Little Adam had been successfully removed from the ventilator and was feeling a bit better.

"Amanda, promise you'll call us if some thing happens" Kim was a wreck, she hated leaving her little boy but this was important. "Adam you sure you'll be okay?"

He rolled his eyes, "Yea" his voice hoarse, "Cannon and Cory are coming to play video games, right?"

Amanda smiled, "they are"

"Adam you're sure?" She asked once more.

"I'm not a baby, I'm fine"

"You're mine and daddy's baby" Kim kissed his head, "I love you, we will be back soon"

Adam kept stealing glances at Kim as he drove, "hey" he reached out and touched her cheek with his fingertips, "he doesn't miss us, not with my nephews there"

She nodded, "I know" she grabbed his hand in hers, "I'm a little nervous"

"I know, but don't be"he assured her, "they love you, they're your parents"

Adam checked the address once more, "this is it, you ready?"

"Not yet" she whispered, she leaned over the console and held his face in her hands, "I need one of those breathtaking kisses of yours"

"That I can do" he grinned.

"You're gonna need to ring the bell" Adam teased, they'd been on the steps a few minutes now, "Kim?"

She turned to face him, "I know. I'm just really nervous" she was mid sentence when the door opened, Kim spun around to see who it was.

"Kimberly?" He dad spoke, "my god it really is you" he had tears in his eyes as he embraced her.

After a few minutes he spoke, "Let's go inside and talk" his hand holding on to Kim's for dear life.
