A Sequel to 'Strong Enough' based on the alternate ending of that story

Chapter 13

"He's a patient at Cromer Childrens" Kim told them, "that's where he needs to go"

Sean watched as they lifted the gurney into the back of the ambulance, "Go with him Kim, I got Dani"

"Call Adam please, he's at work" She clutched her son's small hand in hers.

He was fuming, he couldn't believe the piece of shit refused to sign the form.

It really shouldn't have shocked him though, the man was scum.

Sean dropped Dani off with Jen, and raced up the steps of the 21st, thankful that because of all the collaborating with Intelligence he had done, he had been given access to the bullpen via having his hand scanned and was able to come and go as he pleased.

He hunched over out of breath, "Where's....Ruzek....Adam's...at..the hospital" he finally finished, "where is he?" He asked again when no one answered.

Adam came from the copy machine, he saw the look on Sean's face, "Is it Adam?" He asked softly.

Sean nodded, "They rushed him to Cromers come on, I will drive you" he watched as the papers Adam held in his hand floated to the ground.

Adam seemed locked in place.

"Let's go" Sean said tugging on his arm.

Adam took the stairs three at a time, as he raced to find Kim.

Sadly he knew this hospital like the back of his hand, often organizing a massive game of hide and seek earning him the ire of the nursing staff. Though, none of them could stay mad at him for too long the smiles on the faces of the kids couldn't be denied.

They loved it.

He found her sitting in the oncology waiting room, her face buried in her hands her body trembling.

"Darlin'!" He called out, she stood and raced towards him.

"I thought he was gone" she sobbed in his arms, she clutched his shirt in her hands, "I thought we lost him"

Adam held her, he guided her to a chair, "what happened? He was fine when I left this morning"

Kim took the tissue Sean had offered her, "I don't know, Dani found him. My god she has to be terrified" she looked up Sean.

"She's alright, a bit shaken up but she's with Jen and Megan" he patted her arm, "I'm gonna go call and check up on her, alright?" He wanted to give the pair some privacy.

Adam rubbed his temples, "Have they said anything, is he..."

Kim grabbed his face, "He's alive, he came around a little bit in the ambulance" she have never seen a better sight before when his eyes popped open and he tried to speak.

Adam released a puff of air, "thank goodness" he choked out, wiping his eyes discreetly.

SEVERAL DAYS LATER

Bob and Josh stood outside the hospital room, everything had happened so fast both their heads still spinning.

"How's he doing?" Bob asked pointing in the window at his grandson, sickened by sight of the slight boy.

Josh brought the cup of coffee to his lips, "They're hoping to ween him off the vent soon, they think the antibiotics are finally working" he explained, seeing the little boy intubated and sedated was incredibly hard.

"Cannon and Cory came up a few hours ago" he sighed, "they couldn't bring themselves to go in"

Bob rubbed his son's back, "I know the feeling"

"Dad?"

"Yea?"

Josh walked away from the room, "Miller refuses to be tested, it's sent Adam over the edge, he's distraught"

Bob sat beside him, "Jesus, have they heard anything about the donor drive?"

Josh tossed his cup in the garbage, "Nothing, they've halted his chemo until he kicks the pneumonia and bronchitis. Talked about a feeding tube as well"

"Where's Kim and Adam now?"

Josh checked his cell phone, "I sent them home, neither one has slept in days"

Kim was staring at the phone number, it had been years since she had spoken to them, and to be honest she didn't even remember what had started it all.

It was probably something trivial that neither party would budge on and it just snowballed, but know she needed the,.

More importantly her son needed them.
