Prologue

Winter, 1774

He ran through the woods like a mad-man. Shadows paced close behind him,

“Please leave me alone!” the man cried.

Just when all couldn’t, absolutely, get any worse… a fallen tree blocked his escape route. Desperate, he started to retreat, only to be stopped by the ominous figures. Elongated bodies built for speed, massive paws with extended claws,- used to catch, take down, and tear at their prey- their slim tails whipped side-to-side like a metronome while they were positioned on all fours. Eyes that seem to pierce into your inner being with pupils silted anxiously.

“Please spare me,” the man pleaded. “I have a wife and child to take care of! I’ll do anything!”

The packs leader stepped forward and manifested into human form.

“Anything?” the woman repeated with a sneer of pleasure.
