I

It was late December. Colder than it's ever been in New York, well, that's what it felt like. Tessa was closing up shop like she did every Friday night at Starbucks. She turned off the machines and cleaned the expresso cups while playing her favorite artist -- Janine and The Mixtape. She sang to the melody sweetly while dancing nonchalantly to the beat.

"I guess forever's just a temporary feel. You won't be happy til my back's off the wall, so you can kick my feet from under me and laugh while I fall! You won't be happy til my back is off the wall, so you can kick my feet from under me and laugh while I fall!"

She pranced around the room and swept dirt into the dust pan. She grabbed the top of the broom stick and began to sing loudly.

"We shared eachothers bodies..a few hundred times. And here we are pretending we don't know each other's faces. We shared eachothers bodies..a few hundred times. And here we are pretending we don't know each other's faces. You like me more when I am broken! Is that why you just try to hurt meeeeeeee??"

A knock began on the door and Tessa jumped out of her skin.
She dropped the broom and looked at the wanderer at the door.

"Shit!"

She picked up the broom.

"Sir we're closed!"

She began to sweep again.

"Please! I have an all nighter at work and the only thing strong enough to keep me awake is a Caramel Frap"

She surveyed the young man. Tall, brown skin, pink and brown full lips, and a sharp and business man demeanor about him. He looked around 25, or maybe 26? Tessa couldn't figure out. A begging, sad expression grew on his face. Tessa sighed and unlocked the door.

"Caramel Frap?", she asked.

He walked inside as the gust of freezing wind followed him. He shook the snow off his shoulders and took off his hat.

"Thank you so much...", he looked at her name tag, "...Tessa, but yes a caramel frap"

Tessa walked behind the counter.

"What size?"

"Venti please"

"Jesus, you really are pulling an all nighter aren't you?", she chuckled and rang him up.

"I sure am, I have a huge meeting tomorrow morning that depicts whether I'm getting this promotion or not."

"Your total is 5 dollars and 41 cents. And where do you work?"

"I'm a intern at a fashion company"

"Wow, you really don't seem the type to be into 'fashion'"

He handed her the money and she began to make his drink.

"I don't? You can't tell I'm gay girlfriend?"

She laughed.

"No I couldn't tell you were gay. You look manly"

"Well good, cause I'm not gay."

They both look at eachother and bursted out laughing.

"You're pretty funny Mr..."

"Michaels. Jordan Michaels", he shook her hand.

"Nice to meet you Mr. Michaels. Here's your drink", she smiled

"Thank you, why are you working so late? If you don't mind me asking"

"I like to stay after to clean up"
