Ari's POV
I bit my lip in anticipation my green eyes giving Sabrina one last glance before making my way past the guard. Running my hand through my messy bed head mass of flaming red hair I slip down the freezer section of the super market, I grab hot dogs stuffing them in my bag as I pretend to look at a rack of hamburger helper. I make my rounds around the store grabbing tooth paste. Soap, a lone roll of toilet paper and small food items. I pass Sabrina who's shifting through clothing racks, I mind link her ready to leave the store. "sabby how much longer until you're done? "
Her response is almost instant "five minutes and we're out of here."
"OK.... " I whine, finding myself bored. I wonder over to the small jewelry rack looking at the small pretty things. There are strings of beads and plastic watches but my favorite thing on the rack is a small charm bracelet. A childish piece of jewelry, with various charms of birds and little flowers. With a glance around I push it into my bag, "Put it back." Sabrina's familiar voice says. I jump at her sudden appearance my heart thudding in my chest. "why we take everything else?" I question holding my bag to my chest with a defiant look on my face. "Ari we only take what we need... " Sabrina says softly with a pleading look in her shocking blue eyes. "fine..." I huff placing the bracelet back onto the rack childishly crossing my arms as we exit the super market. Walking down the street listening to the constant buzz of traffic we come to a crossing but the traffic keeps whizzing by. I click the crossing button and look at the posters tacked to the pole. A few of them have pictures a few have dogs on them one has a mean looking girl another has two girls one with crazy red hair, and one with blonde hair and shocking blue eyes. It's us! I. Look at the words trying to decipher the squiggles. "Ari we can cross now...Ari what are you doing? "questions Sabrina. "the poster...i can't read it... But we're on it... " I say frustrated tears threating to spill down my face. "OK I'll read it to you OK? " Sabrina says with a soft voice. I nod scared of what I might say. "Wanted: Sabrina Michelson and Ari Smith on account of murder and shop lifting. Any information about the whereabouts should be reported.
Reward will be given for the capture of the two..." her voice trails off. "it's fine we're fine we are safe no one knows we are here Ok. Now let's go home. " she says her eyes full of emotion.
It's a long walk to the woods and an even longer walk to the house. Today's walk home is anything but easy and tension free. So by the time we get home the sun is an angry red splotch in the horizon. Home is a burned house in the woods, blackened front porch and a crumbling roof. But it has running water and a small generator. Who ever lived here before left behind a few things like pots and pans, blankets and towels even a small radio. Sabrina pushes the faded peeling door causing it to creak open. I shuffle inside and dump the contents of my bag onto the worn wooden table Sabrina does the same her blue eyes calculating how long our loot will last. I watch her hoping that I did a good run today. She gives me a small smile before putting away the items. Bored out of my mind I wonder around the house finding myself in what seems to be an office or study. I sit in the cracked leather chair pondering what will happen if we get caught...
Sabrina's POV
I tug at a strand of my hair, the once blonde color is tarnished by the harsh brown dye I used a few months ago to hide myself from the cops. Shop lifting is what we must do to survive, but how long will it last? How long can we stay in one place?
Ari has left me to my own devices to cook something on the small gas stove. With a sigh I start cooking chilli, from a can. It's gross but it's edible. Putting the pot on simmer I flop onto the old yellow couch a book by my side. I look at the page losing myself in the words of timeless classic Faerie tales, in an attempt to keep my mind from wondering back to the poster. The smell of chili burning drags me out my hidden world tucked away in my book and back to reality. I quickly grab the napkin I've been using as a makeshift book mark and neatly place it back in my book. To say I was obsessed with keeping my books in the best condition possible would be an understatement. I lay the book on the mustard colored couch's arm rest and rush to rescue my poor chili from the flames of the old stove. I quickly grab the handle of the worn out metal pot and yelp in pain as the hot metal burns into my skin. I quickly transfer the pop to the next eye over on the stove and rush to the sink to run my hand under some water. Ari comes racing into the kitchen from whatever room she had once been in, if my guess was correct she had came from the study room. "What happened? Are you alright? Why do I smell burning?" She asks frantically panic slightly laced in her voice.
"Everything is ok Ari I just burnt my hand on the pot of chili thats all, its not a bad burn so no need to worry, it'll heal in no time." I say reassuring her and trying to coax her away from any fear. Before she could say anything I spoke again." Get us two bowels and spoons from the cupboard and set them on the table I'll bring the chili."
"Make sure to use a towel to grab the pot."
She states then simply walks over to the cupboard to grab the bowls. I grab the tattered dish towel and wrap it around the handle of the pot. I slowly walk to the table wincing at the pain still evident in my hand. I dump some chili in her bowl and some in mind making sure to give her the biggest helping. I sat the pot on the table then walked to fix us drinks. I finally got the drinks and sat at the table to finally eat.We ate in silence, and by eating I mean pushing our food around as if it was radioactive waste. Ari has been too quiet, it worries me. "hey what's up? Why are you all gloomy? " I ask cleaning out my bowl in the trash. She plucks at the tattered rips in her jeans as she mumbled her reply. I give her a sigh but don't push the topic. Ari will talk when she's ready, I just have to be patient. Even though her lurking bothers me.
I make my way around the house putting things away and sweeping the dust from the floor. OCD is real, I make my way down the hall pushing the wrinkles in the rug down when I hear it, faint sobbing. I ease open the door to see Ari has curled up in the corner of what seems to be an office a book lays awkwardly at her feet a flashlight rolling across the glass littered floor. "Ari what's wrong? Why are you... " I'm cut off by a blood curdling howl. One that's been imprinted in my mind ever since that unforgettable night.

Ari's POV
Howls echoed in the room like an executioners laugh. My sobs caught in my throat, choking down the useless emotions. I look to Sabrina waiting for instructions. Follow me very quietly. She tells me through mind link. I nod, slowly pulling myself off the floor to follow her. What's the plan? I ask creeping behind her down the hall. We get as far as we can on foot then we will have to shift and run like hell if they catch up with us. Her mental voice sounds strong and sure but deep inside I knew she had to be scared. She grabbed a bag and carefully made her way to the window flicking the curtain open she checks to see if the house is surrounded and like all good action movies the house is surrounded by massive wolves. With an internal groan we wait until there's a break in the circle, then we run. Throwing ourselves through the open window landing silently in the dead flower bed, and dashing into the very dark and very confusing woods. We run for about two minutes before the pack figures out that the house is empty. The wolves growl as they push to catch up with our head start but it only chills my blood like a witches cackle. This situation seems all to familiar, no longer am I a 17 year old rouge I'm a 5 year old child running from a pack I didn't yet understand. My lungs are burning but I push myself needing to keep going if not for myself then for Sabrina. A dark mass shoots past us through the trees. The wolf stops in front of Sabrina flanked by two more wolves. The leader of the trio shifts into his human form and never in my life have I been so thankful for the darkness of the woods. "Hello girls! Have you missed me?" I know that voice, why is it so familiar? "Ari have you missed daddy? " he asks a sick smile on his face. Suddenly I feel sick, my head is spinning and all I can think is stay calm. Don't listen to him Ari. Sabrina mind links me knowing how close I am to an attack. 1....Sabrina is counting. why is she counting? 2..........forever seems to stretch out between the numbers..... 3! Sabrina's wolf form now stands proudly in front of me her gleaming blonde fur reduced to a bland version of its self in the darkness. I fight with myself trying to get my body to relax so the shift can take over. Breathe Ari, breathe and on the third exhale shift. Sabrina links as she paces in front of me protectively. "now Sabrina do you really think shifting is a good idea?" he taunts that sick smile stretched across his face.
1...inhale...exhale.....2......inhale.....exhale.... ..3......inhale............. Exhale. The shift takes over my body like a violent yawn. Joints dislocate and move, my bones start to grow and expand, muscles
Enlarge, my clothes rip and my fur sprouts across my skin in a wave of mix match paint splotches. My fangs rip through my mouth like daggers. Run. The word rips through the link like acid. I run jumping over the sickening man and his hench wolves. If we can get onto someone's territory then they'll have to turn back. Sabrina's plan is so crazy it has to work. It has to.
