Banished

I feel the ground suddenly rushing up towards me. Ready for contact. Ready to collide with my body. I can't help but think as I descend towards the earth how many others have fallen in the exact same spot that I'm about to hit.

I brace myself.

And I hit the ground. Hard. The sound of bones cracking comes before the impact and I can't begin to explain the excruciating pain that shoots up through my bones, through my limbs and ligaments. I grit my teeth and try to suppress a scream, but my attempts at trying to pick myself up without feeling like my soul has left my body was all to real.

My wings have been clipped and I have been banished from my home in Athens. My names Akira Delta, third heir and daughter to the throne of my fathers in the kingdom of Noah in Athens. My kind are the first call and protocol to protect humankind in their home, earth. My kind are Angels.

I'm 18 years old and when a young angel turns 18 a ceremony is held in place, marking you as an official citizen of the Athens. It's a ceremony to prove that you are now, what humans call a woman or adult female. Atheninians call adult females Ajala. During the ceremony a battle is held in place to determine the ranks you shall be held in and what title you shall serve. It is also a day of pain. Life sucking pain. The transition from a young Azala to a Ajala is incredibly painful, everything changes and your senses heighten, your body changes too. All bodies are beautiful no matter what shape or form, but the body of an Ajala becomes desirable to any male. While the transition happens, the universe then chooses your soul mate, a soul that will always love you for eternity with a bond so strong no other being can break it, it is the completion of ones whole being, a soulmate makes you feel like you're at home, they will fight by your side and serve the kingdom next to you.Many Azala's can't wait to have a soul mate. But I didn't want one, I didn't want to have to stick with someone for eternity, I didn't want to have the burden of missing them when they had to go, to me having a soulmate was a nuisance, that's why I couldn't be at that ceremony it determines who you are in front of everyone, it rips you apart then completes you at the same time with no privacy. I didn't want to be apart of the ceremony.

So when the day came i did something terrible. Something that should have resulted in death.

Flashback

"Miss Delta, miss Delta! You must wake it is the day of your ceremony, it's time to prepare you"

I bolt up out of bed. No. The dreaded day has finally come. Once the three moons aline every Azala that has turned 18 during that year has to attend the ceremony.

I sense that Zeela, my guardian is still at the door waiting for my response.
"I'll be ready soon Zeela Thankyou."
I get up to bathe myself when I feel a stabbing sensation in my spine, the urge to rip my wings out has me scratching furiously. The transition is already beginning, I here my angel say. I groan, anything but this day.

After I bathe I sense my sisters in my room awaiting to pick what I shall wear and give me advice, before they must leave me for the rest of day while I prepare for the ceremony.
I have two sisters; Nia and Athena.
We all have the same shape eyes but none of us look the same. Nia has electrifying blue eyes, that pierce yours when she is annoyed, her hair is platinum white and it falls past her waist, she is very slender but a head shorter than me, she has the gift of patience and kindness. Although Nia is only 16 she is the kindest out of all the Delta siblings something we unfortunately don't possess.
Next is Athena. Athena is first inline to become queen of Noah if my eldest brother Judah does not take the role or dies.
Athena is the most brutal, she is as hard as steel and was born a mean lean killing machine. Her hair is jet black and she has amazing emerald eyes that match every forest put together, power radiates off Athena and she is the leader of the Alligent ranks, the top squad that are only used in major disasters or emergencies concerning the supernatural world of other beings such as demons or vampires. Athena dominated her ceremony. She is a big name to live up to, something that I have to live with. "Athena is amazing", "Athena is a great leader", "I bet you carry Athena's strength too".

But I am nothing like Athena and i never will be.

My eldest brother is Judah, he too is a greatly respected leader, but he is also gentle and has patience like Nia, out of all the sibling me and him are the closest and I would die for him. Judah is 25 when he turns a century old the kingdom may vote for a new king, or vote for our father to keep ruling, something that everyone talks about occasionally.
My next two brothers are the twins, Esau and Jacob named after the two greats from our ancient stories. They are both like thunder and lighting always arguing and fighting. They are possibly the most foolish angles to walk Athens but nobody can help but love them both, they're full of life and make me laugh countless times. Tonight they'll be helping me pick my tactics for the fight that will determine my rank.
But that's only if you turn up my angel murmurs.

I walk into my room with my thoughts jumbled about the upcoming transition. Nia smiles warmly and embraces me into her small frame.
"Today's the day sister" Athena says curtly, I give her as stiff smile.
We know how you feel don't you dare think about ditching the ceremony Akira. I here Athena's authoritative voice in my head.

Nia reaches out to hold my hand,
"we have the dress if you'd like to wear it otherwise we can pick something else"
She quietly informs. By "the dress" she means mothers ceremony dress, Athena wore it at her ceremony too.
"Yes I will wear it" I say

I sit down while my sisters silently begin working away at beautifying my features. Today about 50 other Azala's will be doing the same thing as me, I can't help but think, are they scared too? Are they as prepared? Do want to battle their friends?
4 hours pass by and by now it is the afternoon the first moon has already aligned and I feel a slight panic begin to settle in. I haven't seen father all day nor my brothers. But I await patiently as Athena and Nia put on the finishing touches to my hair.

I turn around to look at myself and I don't recognise the person in front of me. I am the spitting image of my mother, wavy ash hair cascading around me, my eyes popping from the makeup giving me violent purple eyes, I look petrifyingly flawless. I look up to see both my sisters with tears in their eyes,
"oh my you do look just like her Kira" Athena whispers
"Make her proud today"

I nod but guilt rises as I know today will change history of Athen and that I will never set foot back into the palace again. I stare at the ground tears streaming down my face,
"Don't cry Kira be strong for the Delta's today is something great for you, you might even find your soulmate straight away!" Nia grins gleefully while holding my hands.

Oh Nia if only you knew

I get up abruptly turn and head to the bathroom shutting the door, it is only until I feel their energy leave do I go back into my room and sob.
