“What’s happening with you Keesha?” asks Terence from behind.

What’s really happening with me? I’m not like this; I never had this kind of grades before. I am so ashamed that I can’t even look Terence in the eye.

He taps my shoulder and peeks at my test results. He lets a small groan and shakes his head in disappointment. “Maybe you should stop tutoring those Sires.” he suggests firmly on which I can say is more of an order. Terence has the tendency of becoming a strict father figure to me, especially in times like this, when I’m not in the right track. Most of the time he’s right, but not this time. I don’t think this has anything to do with Train and Luke.

I finally look at him and to my surprise, he looks pleasantly weird. His hair is well groomed unlike his traditional ‘out of place’ hair. His smell is also different, lemon and lush. I smell perfume all over him. “You look different.” I say instead. I look thoroughly at my best friend and I realize that he’s not wearing the necklace I gave before we went to Whitehorn.

I feel sad even more.

He smiles and his eyes become smaller again. He scratches the back of his head shyly and say, “Well, things are going great with me and Stephanie.”

A thunderstorm washes my heart away. Lightnings, swords, and cannonballs pierce my heart all at the same time. I can’t describe how painful the words to my ears and heart are. “I don’t even know you two are dating.” I say, shaking, trying not to burst in sadness.

“You were too busy with I don’t know. I can’t even see you in one place for an hour so I didn’t have the chance to tell you.” He explains happily.

My body shivers with pain as I listen at his explanation. I have never felt this kind of pain before. It is too much to bear. “What happened to the no secrecy pact we had before?” I raise my voice.

“Are you listening to me?” he asks in confusion. “Seriously Keesha, what’s up with you?”

“That’s none of your business.” I say firmly. I can’t breathe. As if someone’s hand is gripping my throat tightly. I pat the back of his shoulder and say, “I guess, you won’t be needing me anymore.” I walk out of the room as casual as possible.

He’s really a fast runner, instantly he catches my pace and holds my hand. “You listen up Keesha, things might get serious between me and Stephanie, but you will always have a special place in my heart, you’re my best friend and that’s not going to change no matter what happens.”

My lips are badly shaking. Hearing him say that I’m his best friend makes me devastated. What he said is a big slap on the face; I can’t change his feelings about me. I am only his best friend. Nothing more. I will never ever have the chance to change that.

Running is the only option I have now. So, I ran away from him until I bump into Luke who is walking in the hallway. I think he’s in his way up to their floor.

“What’s wrong?” he asks as he stops me from running.

I shake my head and stare at the floor. I can’t look him in the eye, not in this state. My eyes are already swelling from excessive crying. I don’t know when I started crying, I just realize it now since my eyes are hurting just like my heart. “It’s nothing. I just want to be alone.” I sniff and choke at the words.

He did not say anything. Unexpectedly, he pulls me closer to him, so close that my body is resting against his. “You can cry on me.” that’s all he said and the next thing I know, my face is buried at his chest with my arms swinging at my side, crutch into fists.
