Delaney didn't know what to do. She wanted to go home. Not to her dad and stepmom but to her brothers. She was afraid they weren't being taken care of since she wasn't there. She was praying her dad and stepbrother wasn't taking his anger out on them now.
She's been in this room for two nights almost three. She was refusing to come out, refusing food but was drinking water from the bathroom sink. And when anyone would come into her room she tried to sink in the corner by her bed. She hadn't said a word.
Tonight was no different. She heard the door knob turning. She tenderly sat down in the corner, wincing as she pulled her knees up to her chest.
The guy who introduced himself as Justin and the older woman who introduced herself as Sara were standing in front of her. Sara was holding a tray of food. Delaney would never admit that that food smelled so delicious her stomach rumbled.
"Delaney sweetheart, please eat. You need to eat to keep up your health," pleaded Sara.
Delaney just put her head back down ignoring her. She's normally very polite especially to her elders but she has no clue who these people are or what they want from her.
All of the sudden Justin lifted up Delaney by grabbing both of her upper arms. Delaney cried out in pain immediately hating herself for being so weak. Justin let go as soon as he heard her anguished cry. She scooted back to her corner.
"This can't be good mom,"
Justin said in Italian.
"Richard did not do a very good background check. We've never had one respond like this. You definitely hurt her when..." Sara was saying in Italian.
"I promise I barely touched her mom," interrupted Justin.
Justin bent down to eye level.
"Please look at me Delaney," Justin said in Italian.
She was trying to decide if she could trust him.
"I promise Delaney. We aren't going to hurt you. I just want to talk to you." Justin said softly.
Delaney looked up. Justin caught a tear with his finger. She jumped back from his touch. She bit her lip to hold in voicing the pain. But Justin and Sara noticed.
"It's clear someone has hurt her. I'm sending for Ralph," said Sara in Italian.
"Okay. Good idea. She definitely needs checked out," Justin said in Italian.
Delaney's fear of doctors was taking over.
"Please no doctor's," Delaney said in Italian.
Sara froze in her tracks.
"I'm definitely talking to Victor about Richard," Sara said in Italian.
"You speak Italian?" Asked Justin in Italian softly.
Delaney shook her head yes.
"Why no doctors? You need to be checked out. Ralph is our personal doctor. He'll take good care of you," Sara was saying.
Delaney shook her head no. Justin caught the fear in her eyes.
"Mom, something is definitely wrong with this. Get Ralph first. Then get Richard. I'm going to keep trying to get through to her," Justin said in French.
Sara nodded to Justin and started to leave.
"Please just let me go back home," Delaney said in French.
Sara looked at Delaney. Justin just stared at Delaney in awe.
"I'll be back. Delaney sweetie please eat while I'm gone," said Sara.
Sara left shutting the door.
"You really should try your dinner. It's chicken Alfredo," Justin said.
Delaney just put her head back on her knees.
"Delaney please. I know I sound like a broken record. But you need to eat. It's almost been three days. That's not..." Justin was saying.
"Three days is nothing," Delaney said.
She heard him take a sharp breath.
"How bad are you hurt?" Justin asked.
"Nothing I can't handle." Delaney answered.
If he wasn't so worried about her he might have actually grinned at her feistiness.
"Who hurt you?" asked Justin.
"Please, I don't need the doctor. I'll be okay." Pleaded Delaney actually looking into his eyes for the very first time.
She felt a spark. Almost like a magnet pulling her towards him. He was very handsome. He went to touch her cheek but she leaned back. He dropped his hand.
"Why are you so scared of doctors?" Justin asked.
"I have my reasons," she answered looking away.
"I will stay in the room with you. Or if you feel more comfortable my mom can. But I swear to you, Ralph will not hurt you. He's going to help you," he said trying to reassure her.
A tear rolled down her cheek but she quickly wiped it away. She hated for people to see her cry.
"It will be okay. Do it for me Delaney. Please," Justin's voice was so husky.
Delaney didn't understand what was happening. He acted like he cared, like he wanted her or something. How could that be possible. If he only knew about her life, about who she is he wouldn't be so interested. If Ralph examined her he would know some of it.
"If I eat will you tell the doctor he's not needed?" She asked pretty much begging him.
She was desperate and he could tell. His heart dropped. What happened to this beautiful young woman? And why is she trying to hide it?
"Don't do that to me Delaney. You need to eat and you need to see a doctor." Justin answered softly but forcefully.
Delaney stared at him for a second.
"Why are you doing this? Why did you kidnap me from my home? Where am I?" Delaney was so confused.
"I will tell you everything once you eat and we see Ralph." answered Justin.
Delaney chuckled in frustration.
"So you want me to just trust you? Some stranger who kidnapped me and holding me here hostage..." Delaney spouted off getting mad.
"Okay then. I bought you." Justin said quickly.
Say whaaaat. Only me she thought.
