Making a WarGames fanfic. Basing it off the very first scene, with the two missile launch guys. Gonna make the attack thing that they had just an error.
------
Steven Phelps sat at his console, getting situated. "Lawson, have you ever experienced an error with nuke codes before? I did once, few weeks before I transferred here."

Jerry Lawson shook his head "I know what day you were talking about... it wasn't my shift that day. It was Bevan's. He was awful rude today. I wonder what happened yesterday..."

Steve huffed, "Tucker called me at 4 in the morning. Bevan was having trouble breathing. The paramedics that came gave him an inhaler, in case he needed it until he could get help."

(Actual wargames quote from the intercom)

"Skybird, this is Dropkick with a red dash alpha message in two parts. Break. Break. Stand by to verify."

Phelps blinked in astonishment. "Alrighty, uhhh." He grabbed his binder and copied the code, Lawson followed suit.

The intercom spoke the code "Zulu Xray Alpha Alpha Charlie Kilo Lima two zero zero six zero, confirmation code Foxtrot Tango."

Lawson huffed, it was the correct code, but why would an attack happen now, in broad daylight? "Im gonna call someone. I don't want to kill 20 million innocent people!"

Soon the intercom said "false alarm" after Lawson checked with NORAD.

Phelps suddenly looked at Lawson, pale as a ghost. "Jerry... I don't feel good." This was what Bevan was feeling the night before. Headache, stomachache, and breathing problems.

Jerry ran to Steve, scooping him up, as if he were a baby and called for help. "Cmon, Uniform. Pick up!" He said frantically as he held Steven, supporting his head.

A man from Uniform 3 answered the phone. "Hello? Oh hey Jerry. What's wr-" he was cut off by a crying Jerry.

"S-Steven Phelps, my partner.... he passed out. He needs medical help. Hes 25 years old. Possible heart attack. Maybe stroke..."

The man on the other line tried calming him down. "You're Skybird, right? Sending medical help right away."

Omce Jerry got off the phone, he crouched, laying down Steven. "Cmon, buddy. Wake up. I can't lose you. You make everyone's day. I know Bevan wouldn't want to lose a former partner"

Steven tugged at his undershirt, "Too tight" he squirmed in pain. What Jerry didnt know, was Steven suffered a stroke and had a collapsed lung from the day before. The breathing trouble had caught up with him.

When the medics got there, Steven was near death. All Jerry could say was "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry."

Steven's last words before going unconscious were "Why didn't you turn your key?"
