"True, but those guys have probably killed people before! You should've..." I wiped my face of the tears that were running down my face.
"Destiny, what's going on with you?" he asked.
Before I had to explain that those men were the reason for my mother's death, we heard footsteps coming down the hall.
"I think we should go." I said.
I flipped the switch that unlocked the door and me and Uncle John ran back to the car in the parking lot. When we got in the car Uncle John started the car and drove away as fast as he could. We drove in silence for a couple minutes until Uncle John remembered we were in the middle of figuring out why I was acting homicidal.
"Destiny, you never answered my question." He said.
I didn't answer.
"Why were you so upset about me not killing those guys?" he asked.
"I was just shaken up that's all."
I don't know why I didn't tell Uncle John that my mom was dead and they were the reason why. I guess I still wasn't ready to talk about it. I started to replay everything that had happened in the hospital over in my mind and noticed a couple things that seemed unusual.
"Uncle John?"
"Yeah?"
"What did the doctor mean when he called me a Shader?"
Silence.
"Okay, let's try a different question. How did you know all that stuff about the medicine they were giving me? How did you know they were drugging me? And as long as we're on this subject, how is it possible the drugs wore off so fast? I mean, I know you carried me down the hall and to the door, but that's not enough time." I said.
Uncle John became fixated on the road at that moment and continued to drive in silence. The only sound was the sounds of cars speeding by.
"Destiny, this is going to be hard to hear...and you're going to think I'm crazy, but I can prove everything that I'm about to say if you give me the chance."
After Uncle John said this, he paused a while as if he was trying to figure out what to say next.
"A Shader is a human being with special...abilities. I'm-"
"Special abilities," I cut him off, "What do you mean special abilities?"
"Destiny, if you want me to explain this, you're going to have to let me finish and save you're questions for the end, okay?"
"Okay." I agreed.
"Now, a Shader is a human being with special abilities. I'm a Shader, your mother was a Shader, your father was a Shader-"
I cut him off again, "Wait, you knew my father?"
"Destiny, what did I say?"
"Sorry, I won't do it again."
"Okay, now where was I? Right, your father was a Shader and you are a Shader."
He paused again.
"There's an organization out there called the SRA and as you now know, that stands for Shader Removal Agency. They want to "remove" us because they think we are a threat to the world, which some of us are, but most of us aren't. We get our powers the day we turn thirteen, which I'm guessing, in your case, was a couple days ago?"
"Yeah, March 14."
"March 14?" he said.
"Yeah, why?"
