Chapter 1: Six & Eight

"Will you two stop monkeying around?" Mommy scolds amusedly as I back flip away from Dick.

"Let them be, Mary. Isn't it their job?" Daddy smiles across from her.

"Yeah, but in the middle of the grocery store?" She replies with a small shrug of her shoulders, "Don't you think that's gonna give us away while we're on break?"

"Do you see any trapeze here?" Daddy jokes and Dick tags me.

"Ha, you're it!"

I smiled and ran after my older brother.

"Be careful!" Mommy says quickly as I keep myself from falling into one of the shelves containing the cereal boxes.

"Sorry, mommy!" I smile before running after Dick.

I looked down every aisle, but couldn't find him. "Dick! Where are you?!"

"Boo!"

I jumped and screamed from a boy about Dick's age, jumping from behind boxes with a scary mask on to scare me.

He started laughing as my face grew red and tears appeared in my eyes. He took the mask off his face and pointed at me while he did so.

"Immy, where were you?"

I turned to see Dick approaching me, brows furrowing a little as he looked at me.

"What's wrong, Immy?"

I stepped behind my older brother and pointed at the boy who still laughed.

"He popped out and scared me." I cry and Dick looks back at the boy.

Before either one of them could say something, I hear a woman calling for someone named "Jason".

"Jason, there you are!" The blond woman says, grabbing the boy by his hand, "I told you not to run off."

A frown grew on the boy's face and his mouth opened to start whining.

"Why'd you scare my sister?!" Dick yells, his high pitch voice trying to scare him.

"What's going on here?" I hear Daddy ask and I hurry to run over to them.

Daddy picked me up and sat me on his arm as I tuck my head into his neck, rubbing my wet eyes with the back of my hand.

"Sheila? Is that you?" Mommy asks, and the woman looks from the boy to Mommy.

"Mary?"

"Oh my God, it's been so long!"

They hug, which causes me to be confused.

The boy stares up at me with furrowed brows as Dick now stands by Daddy's legs.

He had blue eyes, long eyelashes, black hair and chubby cheeks.

"Yes, it has," The woman agrees, letting Mommy go.

"What are you doing in Blüdhaven?" Mommy asks and the woman sighs a little.

"It's a lot." She says, then mumbles as if we weren't meant to hear, "Jason's father."

Mommy nodded and looked sad for a minute until the woman sighed small.

"So who is this and these two lovely children?" She smiles, looking at me, Daddy and Dick.

"This is my husband John Grayson, and these are my two kids, Richard and Imogen Grayson."

"You can call me Dick if you want!" Dick says with his usual bright smile, making his cheeks look even bigger than they already were.
