Slumping in her desk chair, she let her fingers graze upon her school books. Alex run her fingers up the side of the book, wanting to eliminate her school and everyone in it. Everyday this would be the routine, Alex would contemplate burning the only form of education she's ever gotton and turning her bitchy classmates to ash, all going on inside her petty little mind. Alex Ilamay Doyle, keeping her fathers last name, the ridiculous guy she called her "dad." He stayed only 6 months of Alex's life then dissapered for an unknown reason, he never returned and thats what Alex wonders everytime she thinks of burning her school.
The way death brings joy to Alex, can be exciting for her, except her mother, in which she feels endangered. Like Alex will chop her mother up one day or bring home a decapitated head or a limb of some sort. But Alex always laughs at the times her mother, Laura, would fear her own safety. It's funny actually. Her mind wondering elsewhere moments after she receives a smirk, then comes the hard, deep thoughts that arrive sooner than later. Her dad's story. Her dad's story was told by her mother when she was younger, he ran off with a whore named Brooke, its a typical whore name, Alex would always say out loud, making her mom giggle.
'Your father left when you where 6 months old." She would say, looking pale everytime she told this story.' 'Mama we're all full of lies, we don't always know the truth.' Alex would end the converstaion with, bringing a dull frown onto her moms face. 'What was his name?' 'Why won't you tell me his name?' 'Mama why do you keep things from me?' Alex would think, not wanting to cause her mom pain again.
Staring off into space, the door opens harshly, causing Alex to flinch and cock her head to the noise. Her mom lean against the frame of the doorway, holding a delicious smelling pot, stirring it's insides with a wooden spoon. Insides. 'I didn't see you come in darling, how was school?' Laura asked, sitting the pot onto Alex's desk and taking a seat on her bed. 'School was fine, coach made me do an extra 5 laps around the hall but its cool.' She lied. She didn't have to do laps, she didn't attend school at all. This has been going on for weeks, only a new thing she's been doing. She didnt know why, but she carried on.
Ditching school to go by the park with the special lake on the far end of it, that was her get away. The only place she felt she was wanted, maybe by the nature? The birds chirping above her in the tallest of trees? Maybe the lake spoke to her, in her mind? She would feel this comfort, this warmth that drew her to this park with the special lake on the far end of it. Maybe her mom would take her here as a child? She had no idea, but she felt she needed to be here.
'You know, your principal called me today at work and told me something?' Laura said. 'Okay thats super cool and all but I should get the mail and stuff ya know, somebody has to get it before it overflows.' Alex raved with wide eyes. 'I emptied it on my way out to work, Alex. Darling you can't skip school, you need to get into a good college and have a good job but this....this nonsense that you've been up to..its not appropriate.' Laura struggled. Her voice confident and shaky. Eyes fixed on Alex's, moving her hand to Alex's knee, she gave it a rub. A warm, friendly rub to provide a sense of worry.
'Mom I'm sorry, I just have a hard time with school work is all.' She lied again. 'Honey you can always tell me these things, we can do something about i-' 'NO!' Alex interrupted. She was doing quite alright in school, infact she was all B's and A's, the occasional C. She wanted absolutely nobody to know about her place, the place she respected more than her own home. The place she wished was her home.
'What's going on Alex?' Laura asked. 'What? As in school or?' 'I mean like your um.....love for death..you know your satan stuff.' 'Mom I'm not a satan worshipper, I'm flattered you think I am, but no.' 'Oh okay good then, listen I have dinner almost ready so how about you get changed and we'll have a nice family dinner okay.' Laura exclaimed. With a nod, Laura left the room, taking the pot and the spoon and leaving. A sigh leaving Alex's mouth, she spun around on her chair wishing she was anywhere but where she was basically held hostage.
