Victoria's POV

"Mom, did we really have to move here? I hate neighborhoods like this," I complain to my mother.
"Neighborhoods like what Victoria?" She asks.
"Like...this. Community neighborhoods. I love the country better," I say.
"I know you do honey, but it's for the best," she explains.
"Best of what? You moving in with your new hubby and leaving dad?" I ask.
"Now Victoria, you know your dad cheated, so why should I stay with him?"
"You sure it was him, or were you the reason? You and Mr. Rich over there," I nod my head towards my moms rich fiancé, Justin. "And don't think for one moment I'm calling him dad. He's only 5 years older than me mom, he could be my brother and you're marrying him in less than two weeks."
"Oh don't worry your little 17 year old head about that sweety," she says patting my head.
I roll my eyes and take my suitcases in, finding my soon to be bedroom. Laying my suitcases on my bed, I hear a knock on my door and turn to see Justin leaning against the doorway.
"Can I help you?" I snap.
"Nope, just seeing how you like your new environment," he says with a smirk.
"It's okay," I say.
"Just, okay?" He asks.
"Yes. Just okay. I like where I'm from better. Ya know, the more country part of Texas, not this city crap," I say.
"Ah, I understand. You can't have your horses and four wheelers in this community neighborhood, can ya little miss country girl?" He asks.
"No, I can't. And I hate it," I tell him.
"Well, maybe this weekend we can all three find a place to go muddin and then head to the lake afterwards. Sound like a plan?"
"Sure, but it'll never be like back home, but it'll be somethin," I say.
"Cool, I hope you'll enjoy it," he says with a smile.
"Oh, and don't be tryin to butter me up with stuff like this too often, because no matter what I'm never gonna like it here," I state.
He holds his hands up as surrendering, "I know, I know. Just trying to make you feel more at home. I mean I know how horrible it is to leave from Houston, your hometown, to here in Dallas. Basically right in the suburbs," he says.
"No, you don't know. You've lived this richy life since you were a kid, you know nothing about how I feel!" I sort of let my voice raise a bit.
"Actually, even with the lifestyle I've lived all my life, we were still constantly moving. I'm not from here. I'm originally from North Dakota, but my dad in order to make his business grow, we've basically been all over America. But Texas is where I choose to stay because I've grown to love it here," he says.
"Hey you two, I just made lunch. Y'all should come downstairs to eat. You'll have plenty more time to bond as family later.
No family of mine. I think to myself.
