((I'm a terrible friend and have been meaning to write this for forever now. Still didn't turn out as well as I wanted but I hope you still enjoy! :))
In the living room Zenix was sitting on the couch watching tv when he heard keys unlocking the front door. Garroth somehow managed to unlock and open the door while juggling an arm full of groceries. "Hey Zenix, do you mind giving me a hand?" Zenix sighed but got up from his position on the couch. Garroth had done so much for him these past few months by taking him in and Zenix was more than grateful, even though they disagreed on a few things every once in a while. They finished putting up the groceries when Garroth remembered something. "Oh! I almost forgot! Zenix stay right there I have something for you." He ran back out to the car to receive a box and brought it back to Zenix. "Here, I uh.. Thought you might like this!" Garroth looked a bit nervous as he handed it over. Zenix took the box from him and quickly opened it, curiosity taking over, until he saw what was inside. Zenix slowly pulled out the brown, fuzzy item and became very confused. "A teddy bear Garroth? How old do you think I am? We've been over this.. I'm 17 okay. Not four." The words came out harsher than he meant and Zenix immediately regretted them when he saw the hurt on Garroth's face. "I-I can take it back..." He trailed off. "I'm S-sorry I just thought y-you would like it. I didn't k-know." Garroth bowed his head in defeat before adding "I'm having to work night shift tonight, so I won't be home until early morning. I just thought I'd let you know." He walked out of the room. "Great," Zenix thought, "I really need to stop putting my foot in my mouth or Garroth is going to end up kicking me out." He sat the bear on the table and went back to his position on the couch.
((Fast forward to later that night))
Zenix is woken by the sound of thunder outside his window and immediately felt panic rise in his chest. He goes to wake Garroth up to sit with him during the storm, until he remembers Garroth wouldn't be home for another few hours. "I'll just go wait for him in the living room until he gets home. I'm not getting any sleep tonight anyways." He tells himself. Oh how he hated storms. Zenix walked toward the couch when he caught a glimpse of the object he made such a fuss over earlier. Zenix hesitated before walking over and picking it up. He looked at its face while he spoke. "Look I know Garroth is trying, but he needs to realize I'm not a baby. I'm old enough to fend for my own, I don't need silly toys for children." A sudden flash of lightening and the sound of wind picking up made him jump. "Well, maybe on nights like this it wouldn't hurt." With the bear still in his hands, he makes his way toward the living room.
((A few hours later))
Garroth arrived home early that morning around 3, the storm had passed by the time he left work. On the drive home he couldn't stop thinking about how dumb it was to get Zenix a teddy bear. He should have known better, but it's not his fault he has no idea how to take care of a child, even if Zenix is older. Garroth pulled into the drive way and walked to the front door. Through the window he could see the tv on in the living room, though when he opened the door he noticed it was muted. Trying to be quiet he walked over to turn it off but not before he noticed a sleeping Zenix on the couch. Garroth went to wake him up to tell him to go get in bed when he saw what Zenix had snuggled close to his chest. A smile spread over Garroth's face when he saw the teddy bear and decided it wasn't foolish of him to get the gift after all. Garroth then decides to himself that he will get better at this whole dad thing, he just hopes Zenix is patient with him until then.
