Chapter 1

The National Ride

I waited anxiously for my turn at the National Barrel Races. I couldn't wait one more second before my name was called. "Nicole Glader and That's How We Roll." I smiled at the name of my gelding, Cisco. I healed him into a gallop and started on the pattern.

We had a clean 11.54 second run, putting us first on the score board. I walked Cisco out of the ring, proud of our run, a smile glued on my face.I dismounted and lead Cisco to my grandparents, I've been living with them since my parents passed away in an accident after getting to drunk at a party with friends when I was 6 years old. I'm glad I have my grandparents, they mean everything to me.

My grandpa, Joe, walked up and gave me a quick hug and kiss on the forehead before taking Cisco to the trailer. I looked at my grandma Betty, "Congratulations honey! Your parents would be so proud of you." I smiled at her words, proud to have her there for me.

"Thanks grandma," a tear dropped from her the corner of her eye, a smile glued to her face as well. I moved my hand and swiped the tear away. She took hold of my hand and we walked to the trailer to my grandpa. "Hi gramps," a smile grew on his face as he turned from giving Cisco some water to see me.

"Hi honey, congratulations on your ride. I'm very proud of you," he smiled so big my grandma and I started laughing and he joined in too.

We were interrupted by the intercom calling the places of the group I was just in. I had the best time and got first. I smiled at my grandparents before going to receive my prize. "Thank you so much," I smiled at the judges as I took my prize and they congratulated me before I went back to my grandparents to get a leave on the road back home.

This is my first book writing and I thought I'd give it a try. Don't know if I like it personally or not. But hopefully whoever reads likes it.
