Chapter 1

My name is Kristen Washington, I come from a family of whites. I'm a straight A student, all I want is for my family to be proud, but it's hard to do that when your a black girl in a white family. When I was born immediately my mother gave me up, the only thing I have of her is a bracelet. Yes I have a big house, a nice car the perfect family 2 parents and a brother but it's like something is just missing in my life. I mean I'm a senior in high school and I really haven't got anything accomplished except fantastic GPA. My parents Linda and Rob want me to aim high go to Stanford or Yale but I don't feel that, I don't feel like I'm destined to be in a society with almost perfect people I'm not perfect , after all no one is .
