Despite his previous hesitation to look over the books, Troy's dislike of them made him have new thoughts for the books. A new view of them.
He limped out of the library, looking down at his feet, since his left leg was still asleep. It was dark outside and the stars shined brightly over the town. The moon leading his way to the hospital. It was a twenty minute walk from the library which made the trip seem easy, but Troy had said there would be obstacles. He rolled his eyes, thinking that a bunch of kids might jump him. He couldn't actually believe that he was going through this, doing as troy had said after she had poisoned him and basically held him hostage.
John sighed and continued on, getting faster as his left leg woke up. At every alley and corner he moved cautiously, trying to catch if someone would jump out at him. John kept his eyes wide open as he walked. The only person was the old lady who runs the gas station down the street from the apartment John lives in with his mom. He glared at her since she was one of those people that always got on his nerves. He scooted past her as her small dog began to yap, scaring him enough to make him start running. The old lady's laughter could be heard down the street. John took a deep breath once he was far enough away.
When John made it to the hospital, he looked up at the tall building. It was towering and daunting. He hadn't seen anything that would really distract him so far, which could only mean that he would have to face something when he went into the hospital if Troy had been telling the truth. He doubted it, but he could at least try. He could ask a doctor or a nurse about the effects of whatever it was that she had given him while he was in there if all it was was a prank.
John entered the building at a slow pace, not wanting to rush too quickly to the roof. He still had an hour and a half to get there. Whatever was waiting for him to get up there would have to wait until he was ready.
He walked around the hospital for thirty minutes before a group of rushing nurses and paramedics rushed by. He had moved to the side to get out of the way, but the patient on the gurney caught his eye. His heart plummeted to his stomach as he chased after the group who was trying so hard to keep the person on the gurney alive. Rushing with the group was John's mother.
She hadn't seen John as she ran with the doctors and nurses that were trying to save the man on the gurney. Her face pale and frightened as she tried to keep up and stay with the gurney.
At first John didn't recognize the man, but as they were turning around a corner and going through doors that neither John nor his mother could go through he saw that it was his father. His brain seemed to loose any thought process as he watched his father being pulled away on a gurney
The man looked even paler than John's mother did. His eyes looking up at the ceiling, lifeless. All emotion seemed to drain from John's body as he stumbled towards his mother. She was sobbing as she stood there, watching the doors as they finished swinging closed. He stepped next to her, not giving any signal to her that he was her son until she looked up. He watched the doors in a similar state to the way she had just been doing.
"John? Where the hell have you been?" She hissed out angrily at him. Her face twisted in anger when he looked at her.
He stepped back, away from her, as she continued on to yell furiously at him.
"I've been trying to call you for hours. Hours, John. You show up now, when it's already too late. He's gone John."
Her voice was sharp and all too familiar to how it was when he had been younger. He took a few more steps back as she continued to push forward. Her anger causing a fear in him he hadn't felt in years. His mouth firmly closed in fear that she would take more offense to anything he said.
