"Get up Ryan! Freakin' get up!!"

I turned on the hard ground. Still half asleep I moaned, "Go away Mom,

give me five more minutes."

"Dude! Don't call me your Mom! I'm a freakin' guy! And get up Man! The

Sniffers are coming!"

As soon as I heard that I was up and off the ground with my backpack

on my dirty back within seconds.

Because you see these Sniffer things are NOT things to be joked about.

They have already claimed the lives of most men and old folk men too

within three years. Now they're onto the young ones like me and my

friend Drake.

There was a movement in the nearby trees of the forest we were in.

One quick look at Drake and I knew we were in big trouble now.

Suddenly the thing in the bushes leaped out at us and landed in the

clearing in front of us. We both froze with fear because never in our

lives have we been that close to a actual live sniffer.

Now that I was merely a few feet away from the beast I could see that

its body was completely metalic. It sort of looked like those toy

robot dogs I used to play with as a child. But the thing in front of

me was way more ugly looking and deadly.

There was two sharp needle like fangs sticking out from inside the

mouth. It's nose was particually large, since it was what it had used

to find us. That's why it's called a sniffer.

In the places where the eyes should have been were two empty sockets.

The darkness within those two empty black holes looked as if it was

never ending. As if you you stared at them too long, you would fall

into them.

In the short few seconds I examined the Sniffer, it had already

advanced two feet closer.

I looked over again at Drake to see that he already had his gun out.

But we both knew that it wouldn't be much use because the Sniffer has

already probably seen this sort of gun before. And another damn thing

I hate about these Sniffers are that they actually learn. What do I

mean by learn? I mean learning just like how we learn. We humans learn

from what we've seen and what we've been through right? These beasts

also learn that way. They will transform to protect themselves and

make themselves stronger.

They transform to be even more deadly.

The Sniffer was even closer now and a low growling noise was emitting

from within its body. It was like a dog's growl. No, it was more like

a growl from a lion that had just been stabbed a couple times in the

throat and was still alive.

It was making its approach now. Slowly. That's the way these things

like to kill.

Slowly and painfully.

Within a split second the Sniffer was off the ground and in the air

soaring towards us.
