Chapter 6 - To Be Or Not To Be?

Start from the beginning

"I pray you made the right decision, Jacob." was all she said before she left, knowing otherwise she would further annoy him and stir up more tension between them.

It left Jacob to think for a moment- he knew what he wanted and he wanted to see if things could work between the pair of you. With that In mind, he tried to think positively- it wasn't guaranteed anything was going to go wrong, and he didn't want Evie putting down his mood- so he decided to make his way back to Aleck's shop- right after he made himself look more presentable.

--------

You barely slept a wink, all night your head was filled with images that made you smiled so stupidly, you felt so naïve for acting the way you had, but you could no longer deny it to yourself- you were falling for Jacob, the sudden rush of it making your head dizzy with girlish giddy delight.

Heading downstairs, you immediately went to the back of the shop where your Uncle was, buried deep in mechanical parts and scribbling about on bit of paper, thinking up ideas and solutions to things.

"Good morning, Uncle." you chirruped, as he recoiled back, gasping loudly- clearly not expecting you to be there. You couldn't help but giggle a little to the goggles where were hanging sort of lopsided off the side of his face, and some excess oil from some components on his face.

"You seem very happy today, did you sleep well?" he asked with a joyful tone, moving back to the work bench as you felt a blush warming at your cheek, looking away.

"Something like that..." you managed to say, not letting the evident smile on your face enter into your tone of  voice.

No matter how you tried to occupy yourself by helping your uncle, you still couldn't help but think of Jacob- and your next meeting. It made your heart feel a little empty when you knew he was probably busy off doing something but still you didn't give up hope.

------------

"Mr Frye!" came the sound of your uncles voice over half an hour later from the front of the shop, and like a little puppy, you felt your alert rise as you scurried to the doorway of the workshop.

Looking out across the shop floor, you folded your arms as you looked over at him, stood in the middle of the oak floor with his arm turned out, displaying a broken gauntlet.

"It appears my blade got a little damaged the other evening..." he chuckled softly, with that charming little laugh that made your heart flutter inside your chest. Jacob's warming hazel eyes went from his broken gauntlet to your eyes.  "You wouldn't by chance have any time to fix it would you Aleck?" Jacob asked innocently, as your Uncle sighed gently.

"I can, Mr Frye, but I'm supposed to be collecting some supplies from an associate..." he hummed, turning on is heels to head back to the workshop to get his tools when he ground his heels into the floor, and delighted sile when an idea formed into his head- just as he was looking at you.

"Ah! Jacob, (name) could fix it for you instead, would that be alright?" he asked, with that quirky joy in his voice at his plan, "I'm sure you two are firm friends after yesterday's events anyway."

"Oh indeed Mr Bell." Jacob replied in that husky voice, watching as your uncle scurried about behind the desk with his back turned before he cast you a look that made you physically shiver.

Aleck popped up again with one of those little smiles, grasping his coat from the hook. "I'll be off for a bit (name), if there's any difficulty..." he paused, remembering who you were with, "Jacob will look after you. Bye bye!" he called, skipping quickly out to the carriage- you noticed when your uncle had formulated plans he had faith in he always got giddy and even more quirky and odd than he already was.

"Come over here then, Mr Frye." you mocked in a professional voice, before laughing, taking Jacob to the desk at the other side of the shop, as he laid his arm out on the wood surface. Grasping the tool box your uncle had left conveniently on the side, you picked out the right tool to pry off the metal guard around the blade so you could get to the spring mechanisms inside.

"I stuck a twig in the end of this bloody hidden blade just to have an excuse to come and see you," Jacob laughed, as you looked up in shock, "I must be mad."

"Most certainly!" you scoffed, breaking into laughter, sighing when you managed to get the guard off and you could visibly see bits of broken branch mashed into the springs. "Oh Jacob, this is going to be a pain to get out." you mumbled, before looking up with a playful smirk, "Couldn't you of destroyed it in a more polished off fashion?"

"You know I don't do anything 'polished'." he answered smugly, leaning in to get a better look at you, instantly making you blush.

It was a sweet moment, when things fell silent and you could simply just be in each other's company without the awkwardness of any sort of tension, and the way he kept on watching you, even with your eyes down you could feel his gaze burning onto you.

After a few minutes with the tweezers you managed to pick out most of the branches, and just to be sure you put a few drops of oil on the springs and mechanisms to make sure they could move efficiently.

"Well there you have it, you reckless fool you." your lips curved into a beaming smile, looking up into his warming brown eyes with intent, "All sorted."

Jacob lifted his arm, and flicked the blade out to find it worked Just as good as before, if not better. The assassin gazed up at you with his usual cocky little smile.

"Thank you, my darling," he cooed, "I suppose I should repay you." he exclaimed, as you could feel yourself getting a little het up, laughing nervously.

"No, no- I don't expect-" you babbled, flicking your (hair colour) hair over your shoulder as a distraction, before Jacob interrupted you before you could say any more.

"No- I want to." he insisted, leaning in to press another one of those heart stopping kisses to your lips, silencing you and stopping your world for a few moments. You reciprocated slowly, hesitant at first, scared you would somehow ruin everything.

You could've just lose yourself in the sweetness and meaning of the moment, feeling your bodies melt into one as he drew you close to his form, warming and inviting, his scent a inviting one, musky with a rather random undertone of fresh air and cool mint. His arms wrapped slowly around your waist, like a ribbon snaking it's way around a present.

You wished your uncle would never come back in that moment.

"I should actually be going..." Jacob began after a moment or two, when he had given you the chance to recover, smirking at the hazed look in your eyes.

"I know..." you sighed reluctantly, "You're very busy- but I really loved that you came to see me, it was sweet." you blushed, tucking your hair behind your hear, as Jacob briefly left the back of his hand skim against your cheek.

"I had fun seeing you- and thank you for fixing my blade- which was obviously accidentally broken." he stressed with a wink, chuckling.

The pair of you were silent for a moment or two after the laughter faded, before you plucked up the courage to ask:

"When can I see you again."

You were returned with a chuffed smile.

"Tomorrow if you want to," Jacob said, "I have a nice little surprise for you, which I think you'll like." he winked mischievously, as you scoffed- impatient.

"Can you not let me know now?" you queried with a moderately childish whine, as he was heading back towards the door. The room filled with laughter as Jacob was leaving, before he spun on his heels and continued to walk backwards, tapping the end of his nose.

"That would be telling, my dear." he played, "And a gentleman never tells."
