John ignored them as Mrs. Ghundly continued to glare. He kept his mouth quiet through class, but glared at Mrs. Ghundly when she looked like she wanted to call on him. They had recently come to a stalemate and an agreement of sorts that on Tuesdays they would do their best to not cause each other any harm. But that was only if Mrs. Ghundly decided not to be biased towards women and race with everything in-between. John didn't take notes or do anything since his mind was beginning to float elsewhere.
Worry edged its way into his thoughts as the class continued and he began to get the feeling that something would change today. He ignored the feeling and turned his attention back to Mrs. Ghundly. Her loud voice caused his ears to ache. She raised her voice "To command students attention to the lesson" as she had said on the first day of school. He had given a short comment that it wouldn't command anything if all their ears were bleeding from it. He had found himself with three hours of detention that he had filled over the course of that week.
He refrained as best he could from opening his mouth until the end of the class when he rushed to the door of the classroom quickly when the bell rang. He did not intend on making the day any worse than what he already knew it would be.
Mrs. Ghundly's voice boomed behind him as he made to reach for the door knob with several other students behind him. "The bell does not release you from this class, I do. Now sit down until I have finished giving you your homework."
Her voice had grated on his last nerve. As the other students went to sit back down he opened the door. Dealing with someone as arrogant and irritating as Mrs. Ghundly was not on his agenda for the day.
"I'm not going to be late to my next class because you don't have good time management," John said, stepping out of the classroom. It wasn't the best he could say but since it was Tuesday, he let himself slide.
John made his quick escape and disappeared into the crowd of students rushing through the hallways.

It was lunch when John realized what everyone had been giggling about when they looked at him.
He pulled out his phone to see if his mother had texted him for any reason or if his father had called to cancel. It hadn't happened in all of the Tuesdays since his parents' divorce but he hoped it would. John hoped that one day that his father would finally realize that they weren't going to be like they once were, not when the man drinks the days away. There was one text from an unknown number. He hesitantly opened it. On the text was a link to a video and a small caption that read, "This is John Doe's Dad. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
He quickly tapped the link which led to a video of his father, drunk out of his mind, bottle still in his hand. The man was yelling at the laughing teenagers who surrounded him. John felt a cold chill down his spine as he realized when this was from and why they knew it was his dad. In the next five seconds his voice and face appear on the video. His father saw him and threw the bottle at John's feet. John hadn't realized anyone had been videotaping the scene when it had happened.
"Dad, come on. You need to get home before you hurt yourself." John had said in a hushed tone as he slowly stepped closer to his father as if he were taming a wild animal. He looked tired and distressed on the video. John remembered looking for his father for hours before that had happened. That night had had several events that had led to John searching for his father. The main reason being that he knew how his father got when he was drunk and John didn't want people to see his father like that, especially since John was following his father's footsteps down that path.
He realized that the sender of the text had made a reference to a previous encounter that John had with the police. It had been a rough day with too many things going wrong. The news of his arrest had spread throughout the school rapidly.
