Hands can be an absolute nightmare to draw. One wrong move, and it could result a bunch of bananas connected to a character's wrist. XD

Although I'm not a pro at drawing hands (still learning myself), I'd be happy to teach you the basic forms of them and what to look out for. :)

1. So for a simple open hand, start sketching out the basic guideline consisting of different shapes, such as a rectangle/square of a sort, the area for the fingers, and a rectangular thumb.

Next, use that same area as a guideline while drawing the long, rectangular fingers. Note that it doesn't have to be perfect because it's just a rough sketch.

Some things to be mindful of:

When drawing the sketch, remember that the length of the palm is more or less the same length as the three fingers (excluding thumb & pinkie).

The palm, as well as the fingers should be slanting downwards to one side a little. The tips of the fingers should form a small curve.

2. Moving on to the fingers, be mindful of their lengths as it is important.
The thumb is shorter and chubbier.
The index finger is about the same length as the ring finger.
The middle finger is the longest, and the pinkie is the shortest.

The index, ring, and middle fingers' lengths are quite similar, so don't draw a very obvious difference in length.

When drawing the gaps between the four fingers, it roughly takes the shape of a rounded 'V' shape. Avoid a pointy 'V', and don't round it too much until it becomes a 'U'.

The tips of the fingers should be a little rounded, but still keeping a slightly pointy shape. Avoid super pointy claw- like like fingertips and blocky fingertips.

(Unless your character is supposed to have those features XD)

So that's all for this basic tutorial! I hope it's helpful for you!
In the next part, I'll be explaining the difference and how to draw male, female and children's hands. So stay tuned for that! :)

Keep calm and doodle fellow Artists! :)
