“That’s exactly right. And Nicholas and I have a project that we needed to work on, so we thought if we skipped school, we could get more done. So, we are going to go upstairs and work on it. Okay?” I said, I think they’re buying it.
“Okay, you kids be safe and be careful. If you need anything just holler,” My father told me, shooing us away.
I ran up the stairs with Nick behind me, I felt so bad that he had to sit through that. Ugh. My family sometimes can be so over-bearing. My father is generally a relaxed guy, but when it comes to boys, he’s not so understanding. I swung the door to my room opened and I realized I am totally not prepared for guests, let alone the hottest guy in the school. I looked around at my underwear and bras, shirts and pants spread across my carpet; well more like on top of my carpet, because I could barely see the carpet.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry about the mess. I was expecting to have people over,” I said, burying my head in my hands. Then I rushed over and started to pick all of the clothes off of the floor.
“It’s cool, really,” He took a step to come and sit on my bed, but one of my bras caught his shoe. He lifted his foot off of the ground and the white bra with black polka-dots hung from his shoe. Awkwardly, he took it off and held it by the strap. He studied it for a second and then handed it to me, “Here,” He said, I took it from him and we both laughed a bit.
“Listen, Nick, about what happened yesterday, I don’t think it’s a good idea. Like, I don’t think that it should have happened. Even though you said that you don’t like Skylar anymore, we’ve only known each other for a few days and,” I started, but Nick’s lips cut me off.
“Look, Kaylee, I understand. But I still want to break up with Skylar so I can get to know you better. And I want you to consider after we’ve known each other for awhile, if maybe you’d want to be my girlfriend?” Nick suggested.
“I’d love that. But I want to make sure that you’re over Skylar. Completely over her,” I told him, playing with a string on my shirt.
“Okay, I’m fine with that,” He told me, and with that, we got to work on our project.
NICHOLAS’S POV
I gave Kaylee and hug goodbye, and then walked out the door to my car. I feel bad, because I kind of have a feeling that once I leave, her father and aunt are going to harass her and ask her a bunch of questions. I’ve always wanted to know why girl’s fathers are always so protective of them.
When I got to my car, I sat there for a second thinking. I needed to break up with Skylar. Not dump, break up. They’re two different things. Dumping is for guys who are assholes and don’t have a heart. They might do it over text, phone call, and rarely done in person. Usually guys dump girls for another girl. Break up is when you kindly explain to the girl why it’s not working out. This is always done in person, but you still agree to be friends.
I pulled up to Skylar’s house without realizing it. Well, it’s time to do this. I tried to convince myself that this was for the best. It’s better I end it right now, then three months later, have Skylar catch me making out with Kaylee or something.
Without any further hesitation, I got out of my car and walked to the front door. I rang the doorbell and rocked back and forth on my heels, waiting for an answer. Just then, the door swung open,
“Hi there, Nicholas. How are you?” Mrs. Brody asked, grabbing my arm and pulling me inside.
“I’m doing wonderful, how are you?” I said politely. That’s the thing about girl’s parents, if you treat them well; they accept you and let you date their daughter.
“Well I can’t complain,” She started.
I looked around the main entrance of the house, their house was beautiful. It was one of the bigger houses in the neighborhood, “That’s always good,” I said, still rocking on my heels.
“Oh, Skylar is upstairs in her room, you’re welcome to go and see her,” Mrs. Brody said to me, pointing upstairs.
“Awesome, thanks Mrs. Brody,” I said, getting passed her and walking up the stairs.
I walked into Skylar’s bedroom, she had everything she wanted. Immediately when you walk into her room, you see a flat-screen TV up on the wall, her king sized bed is set perfectly in the middle of the back wall, and her desk is to the left of her bed. On her desk, she has a Mac computer. Skylar tends to get whatever she wants, because she’s an only child, and a total daddy’s girl. She’s not a total brat about it, though; her father gives her everything, sometimes without her asking. She was sitting at her desk when I knocked on her open door,
“Can I come in?” I asked, walking in anyways.
“Yeah, sure. Where were you today?” Skylar said, turning her desk chair around to face me.
“My mom texted me at the last minute and couldn’t find a babysitter for Cameron, and she wanted me to do it,” I lied.
“Your mom, texted you to skip school to watch your brother? That’s not like her.” Skylar said, she was totally unconvinced.
“Yeah, she did,” I said, my voice getting shaky. Usually I’m a great liar, but I can’t lie to Skylar to save my life.
“I don’t believe you. I’ll ask again: Where were you today?” Skylar repeated her question, enunciating each syllable.
“Something’s just came up, okay?” I said, trying to drop the conversation.
“Okay. So why are you here?” She asked me.
“Skylar, we need to talk,” I started.
