Emily's P.O.V.

I woke up the next morning remembering the conversation I had, had with Luke last night. It was conflicting, he didn't really care, no one did. Right? I shook my head of my thoughts and quickly got in the shower, it was either burning hot or freezing cold. I preferred the cold because the hot would sting. I sighed and got in the scalding hot shower and went as quickly as possible but the damage was already done I got out and immediately dried off and put lotion on my skin. I looked at my reflection in the mirror and took it in. I don't look too horrible. I thought to myself and got dressed into some black leggings, a gray long-sleeved shirt. I put my hair in a low ponytail as I walked down stairs making my parents breakfast and keeping it warm until they got up.
I stood and waited about 5 min minutes when they came down, "child" my mom looked up and scanned me, she growled and came over pulling my hair, "Are you trying to make us look bad?!" She threw me toward the stairs out of the kitchen, "go put something more presentable on"
I nodded blinking away tears walking upstairs to change. I changed into a cream long sleeved shirt with red stripes on it, medium wash jeans, black combat boots and a bit of make-up, "this better be enough" I whispered to myself. I curled my hair into loose curls and walked back downstairs, and into the kitchen.
"Good. You at least look presentable." My mom looked up at me, "we're going out and buying you some more clothes." You may think that's a nice gesture but it's not they buy me clothes so that I can easily make it seem like nothing's wrong to the outward eye.
I nodded and cleaned up their plates. I hadn't noticed one of them dropped their water and and slipped and got a piece of glass in my hand. It started bleeding badly, shaking I stood up picking up pieces of glass and threw them away I finished cleaning up as they left, "this house better be spotless when we get back." I nodded and they left. I quickly went upstairs and started cleaning the glass out my hand. I took small breaths over and over and finally got all of the glass out of my hand and wrapped it in a bandage I changed out of the nice outfit and into the first one I had on to clean the house. I started in my parents room and ended in mine. By the time I was finished I could not feel my legs I laid down on my bed only to be called, "hey sweetheart." I looked up through my window and saw Luke and one of his friends that I've seen him hang around, I stood up and walked to the window. He saw me and his eyebrow furrowed together in confusion, "Are you alright sweetheart?" I smiled and nodded, he cocked an eyebrow before giving me a look saying 'this topic isn't over', "Anyway sweetheart. This is my friend Nick" I gave Nick a shy smile and wave through the window.
He smirked, "So princess," I watched Luke tense when Nick called me princess. "Luke here is having this neighbor dinner thing, you coming?" I swallowed and nodded, "sweet can't wait to see you there princess" He winked at me.
I finally decided to speak just to get it over with, "I um, need to go get ready, I've been cleaning all day."
"okay, see you later sweetheart" I turned away and closed the blinds getting changed back into the clothes my mom approved of. I decided to sit and just enjoy my time alone with music blasting through my ears.
I had just made it look like I just finished when my parents came home, they inspected but not too thoroughly, "kid let's go. Time for this dinner." my mom pushed me out the door. We walked over like a "happy family" and rang the doorbell,
"remember no talking. Got it?" my dad whispered. I nodded and the door opened to reveal his mom, "Hello Chris, and Cecilia, we haven't see you in what feels like forever! And oh your daughter is beautiful!" She exclaimed, I'm surprised my parents didn't utter a word against it.
"Hi Amy. We do love our baby girl." I locked my jaw and tensed when my dad gripped my shoulder,
"Well please come in! And what are we calling this lovely young lady" I was about to open my mouth to speak but stopped myself. Amy's smile fell when I didn't respond.
"Oh I forgot to mention, Emily went mute at the age of 5. We've tried to get her to talk but she won't budge." My mom answered. Amy gave me a sympathetic smile.

"Well that's alright she still seems like a wonderful girl" she smiled at me. She led us to the big dining room, "my husband will be joining us. He's had a lot of work this week and has been trying to keep up with it" she paused, "Emily, Hun can you go get Luke and his friend Nick? His bedrooms last door on the right upstairs" I looked at my parents and they each gave a slight nod so I smiled and started walking upstairs. I walked to his room and knocked on the closed door,  "who is it?" When I didn't answer his voice got angrier, "I swear to God Addie—" he opened the door and stopped, "Sweetheart? I'm guessing my mom needs me." I nodded, "alright thanks, Nick come on." He pulled Nick out of his room. Me following behind him, he started knocking on all of the doors and telling everyone to come downstairs. We went into the dining room and sat down, Luke next to my left and Nick on my right, "mom, you wanted us for dinner right?"
