Guys, I am so excited for this idea. Beyond excited. I've been working on it for forever. Please comment and vote and review! I would love it if you did~. Hope you like it!
The quiet alarm did nothing to wake me up. It most likely would have, if I had been asleep. But I wasn't. In hindsight, staying awake until midnight wasn't very smart, considering I would need the energy later on, and anyway, the alarm would have taken me away from slumber. I knew that to be true. I also knew there was no use berating myself. Staying up on nights like those had been ingrained in my sleep schedule for as long as I'd been alive.
The room was pitch black. I had long since gotten used to the darkness, what with staying awake all night. Either way, I could walk through that particular room blindfolded with ease. Slipping off the bed, I left a pillow under the blanket to hide my absence. As I tiptoed through the room, a small snore came from one of the multiple beds in the room, making me jump. It was Thomas. Shaking my head at my foolishness for believing any of the boys here would wake up from their precious slumber. I continued much less cautiously towards the door. The door had never made noise, but still, I opened it carefully. Blasts of cold air from the air conditioner hit my legs, making me shiver.
The door to the old coat closet was a bit trickier to keep quiet, but it gave me no trouble when I opened it. Behind the massive amount of coats was a safe that had a huge lock. The owner of the safe, believing it was cleverly enough concealed, never actually used the lock. It was simply there for show. Inside was enough money to buy a very large department store filled with designer clothing. The things money is used for these days... I thought in annoyance, taking a wad of bills from the giant stack there was. Experience had taught me that no one would ever notice the small amount that was missing. One gained experience when trying to run away from a home at least twice a month, every month, for almost three years. But let us not discuss that at this point in time.
As I walked out the door, it occurred to me just how easy leaving places was. A step out the door was all it took to remove oneself from a location. Nothing could keep any person tied to their homes forever. And there I was. Leaving a place I would never be connected to again.
The night was much warmer than I expected it to be. Gusts of warm wind soon revealed that the jacket I hadn't brought would have been useless.
There was never a plan before. At least, not that I'd actually thought about. Getting away was my only focus for so long that planning seemed ridiculous. But I walked along, mentally reviewing the hastily-made plan that, although simple, seemed very effective at the time.
1. Get away from where I was.
2. Find work for a fourteen year old boy.
3. Find shelter and continue working until I could join the army.
It had always come back to the army for me, mostly because I couldn't imagine myself doing anything other than trying to save the Earth. Sure, the army didn't exactly save Earth as a whole, but it would preserve the part I was currently in, and being a part of something so major... There was no description for it.
And so I walked. Mile after mile, wondering if, for once, I would finally escape when all fell to pieces.
A piercing light seared through my mind, rendering me blind. As I collapsed to the ground, my eyes feeling obliterated, a scream ripped through the silence. It was a long while later that realization came; the scream was mine. Hands gripped my arms and legs, lifting me off the ground. Sound fell away, and I lost consciousness.

I couldn't see. I knew my eyes were open, because the muscles in my eyelids were contracting with every blink, but there was only darkness. To top it all off, there was complete silence. A deafening silence that seemed unending. Yelling, however, was no issue, so I utilized my voice to the best of my ability. And of course it didn't work. To be honest, the universe wasn't acting very much in my favor on that particular day. Or was it night? I wouldn't have been able to tell even if I tried. So I waited for something. Anything at all. I was left waiting for a while.
