“You sure?” Sera asked him again and he nodded even if his vision was still swimming, turning the world into a bunch of shapeless blurs suddenly.
Shit, was God trying to take away his sight again?
“Good,” she said sternly and then spun around, “who do you think you are?” she shouted as she stalked up to God, giving his shoulder a shove.
Okay that straightened him out. As much as he loved the idea of his woman defending him against God of all immortals, it wasn’t the most brilliant of ideas. Gage was obviously testament to that.
“Beauty don’t,” he pulled her away quickly, grabbing her hand and pulling it back before she could swing at him too- “Sera what happened, you’re bleeding.” He asked sharply, concern of a whole other kind hitting him when he saw that red trickle on her palm. Had the bastard hit her too?
“What?” she shot around, but quickly her worried expression melted away, “that’s not mine,” she shook her head, “it’s yours.”
“Sera it’s red, it can’t be mine,” Gage looked God over. No, no he hadn’t managed to draw blood unfortunately so it wasn’t his either.
“Yes it is,” she said exasperated and reached for Gage’s forehead, withdrawing her hand and showing Gage the blood on her fingers, “you’re bleeding.”
This time he touched his forehead, right above his eye was a small cut. It was barely a wound but it was bleeding…red blood.
“That’s…that’s not possible-”
“Finally,” a frustrated voice called, “we’ve been looking all over for you two. Hey, go grab Josephine for me,” Death turned and mumbled to someone in the hall before pushing God out of the way on her way into the room, “oh hey, naked dance party huh? Why wasn’t I given an invite?” she winked at Gage, “you’re forgiven by the way.”
“Death,” Sera exclaimed and threw her arms around her, “you’re okay.”
“I’m okay?” she returned the embrace with force, “Sweetie I just bawled my eyes out over you, if anyone should be surprised someone was okay it me about you.”
“So…you really didn’t know she was going to end up like this?” Gage asked her.
“Not a chance,” she shook her head, “it was anyone’s guess with his little temper tantrum,” she jerked her chin to God who was now leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest, “but I’m definitely happy with the choice he made,” she pulled away and squealed as she looked Sera over, “oh honey I’m so glad you’re going to be staying here with me, but, you want to cover yourself? You’re boobies are kind of distracting.”
Sera turned bright red as if she was just now realizing she was naked, and looked up to Gage horrified.
He couldn’t help himself, “they are kind of hard not to look at,” he teased her.
The flush spread to her neck, “I…I don’t have any clothes though.”
Death clucked her tongue and rolled her eyes, “Sweetie, you’re an angel, just think clothes and you’ll have clothes. Remember what I told you about mine, about how they’re just a perception thing? Well that goes for you too now.”
“Wait, so you’re an angel too? Then where are your wings?”
Death scrunched up her nose at Sera, “sort of but not really. Though I guess that what they call me these days right, the Angel of Death? But that’s not by choice,” she waved it off, “call me egotistical but wings would be an unmistakable sign that I’ve conceded that I’m not as good as him,” she thumbed over her shoulder at God, “and I for one don’t believe it, so when offered them, I refused.”
