Do me a favor. Make a wish. Now believe in it, whole heartedly. Can you do that? Is that wish worth your whole heart?
We all do it. We see a shooting star, or stay up until 11:11, or an eyelash falls to our cheek, and what do we do? We make a wish. What's the thought process you go through in doing so? Basically just, "What do I want right now?" Perhaps, wishing on a light in an infinity of darkness will just give it to me somehow. Let's get one thing straight, making a wish is a very complex process. You don't just get what you want.
First off, are you willing to give your whole heart to that wish? It's an all or nothing thing, wish making is. You either want it, or you don't. It's as simple as that.
Secondly, imagine how having this wish would affect everyone around you. You're allowed to want things that will make you happy. However, if you're sitting there one day with this one thing you wanted so badly and everyone around you is unhappy, are you really going to be happy?
Now, imagine a slingshot. The further you pull it back the more it "wants" to fly forward. Right? It doesn't matter if it has anything to hurl forward, it's still going to want to go forward for the simple fact that you're pulling it away. We do this exact same thing when it comes to wishing. You wish for something that you think you really want, but do you? Or, do you just think you want it because you can't have it. People will be stubborn and say that they can't have it but that's not the only reason they want it. Then, they'll actually get what they want and once they have it for awhile, suddenly you're bored and over it, and you've wasted countless wishes. It's similar to a little kid watching their favorite cartoon and a commercial comes on for this amazing toy. It's about June at the time, and the kid begs and begs for this toy. He goes to school and everyone wants it but their parents won't let them have it either. It's December, and the kid still wants that toy. He's going to be the boy to get that toy. So, the parents order it off the information given on the commercial and whatever 1-800 number given, and the toy ends up under the Christmas tree. The boy opens the gift, and has never been happier in his life. However, by new years the toy in in the closet because the boy has realized he didn't even actually want the toy and it's lame.
One day, we learn the difference. We will always have the earge to get what we want, it's human. Except wishing is not to be taken lightly. If you are willing to put your whole heart into something, that means you're risking it getting broken. If you've ever felt that then, you know it's not a small deal.
