She shook her head roughly, “why,” her voice broke, “why did you take her from me?”
“Who Sera, Lizzy?”
“Joey you…you…demon!” She said angrily, “how could you do that to me?”
Gage scrubbed a hand over his face, of all the things, he sighed and helped her to stand up, “I’ve got an answer for that, I do, but I don’t have the time to explain right now.”
“Why, who else are you going to take from me? Chelsea, Duncan?” She demanded and pushed away from him and stumbled towards the front of the house.
He grabbed her arm before she could get too far, stopping her and checking on Bane at the same time, “where do you think you’re going?”
“To save them!” she tried to shake him off, but the movement only made him firm his grip seeing the blood pouring from her arm.
“Sera, Sera beauty you need to sit down. You’re bleeding-”
“I know, but I’ll live,” she gritted through her teeth, before pointing to the house, “They won’t without help!”
Her gaze was fierce, unwavering on her mission no matter the personal toll it would take. It was what her sister feared most about Sera, that she would put other’s safety before her own. It was the whole reason she came to this earth, to give Sera something to live for. And Gage took that reason from her.
“Fine,” he huffed angrily, more at himself then Sera, “but get Death to help you.”
Finally Sera’s expression faltered and she looked away from him, blinking rapidly, “She’s gone.” She said softly.
Gage looked back up to Bane, terrified of what he could have done, “What do you mean gone?”
“I…I think God took her,” Sera looked back to him in confusion, “she asked him for help, there was lightning, then she was gone.”
Just like with Mercy. Gage should have known God wouldn’t have missed Bane’s appearance on this earth, but for him to take Death from it when she was trying to…trying to save Sera.
He gnashed his teeth together and expelled a heavy breath from his nose in irritation. There were so many things he wanted to say to Sera right now, I love you not even being the most important. First he wanted to ease the disorder in her mind, all the questions that troubled her. He’d like to lead off with the confession of love, but he didn’t think that was such a good subject to start with when it was so obvious he had hurt her. Okay well maybe that was more for his sake, because if he said I love you and she didn’t return it, or worse, said she hated him, he’d be pretty damn useless.
But maybe it would have been a good idea for him to have given Sera a heads up that he was going to see her sister. In hindsight that probably would have solved at least one of their problems. Not that he knew he was going to send her home ahead of time, but, at least Sera would have known he hadn’t gone there with ill intent. And he couldn’t have predicted that Lucifer would have the balls to send Bane here so he couldn’t have really warned her about that or what God’s reaction would have been. Well maybe, since God seemed to be out for Sera and not just the people around her.
But again there was no time for that. Not if he was going to get rid of Bane before Sera’s friends died.
“You’re not going to be able to get in there until Bane is dead,” he sighed, “just… try to douse the flames and I’ll take care of him.”
She nodded and turned from him without a word.
He wasn’t letting her off that easy.
