It wasn’t Sera but it was Chelsea, and she said we…so then why did Gage feel like there was another presence to the right?
He ignored it. Anyone that was important to Sera was accounted for even if they weren’t all safe, yet.
He backed up as far as he safely could and then took a running dive across the gap in the floor, rolling to his feet without pausing for the bedroom. It was across the hall from the one he had Seen Chelsea in earlier, but one look through the door and it was obvious why they weren’t in there. One of the air conditioning units had burned its way through the roof and was sitting haphazardly on the floor…for now.
In the room opposite he saw Chelsea first, hunched over and gripping her right leg. She was holding something to it, a red towel…no a white towel that was now red. Her whole right side was raw, even her long blonde hair was now short, the ends dark and crispy.
He leapt to her side even as he scanned the room for Sera, “Chelsea what happened, where’s Sera?”
“She’s…she’s getting something to carry me on,” she said in between sobs, “the…the… floor, it just fell out. She caught me before I could fall,” she pulled the towel away and Gage could easily see the bone sticking out of her calf, “I broke it a long time ago, it was weak-”
Gage covered her wound quickly, it only seemed to upset her more, “it’ll be okay,” he put his hand over hers, “I’ll get you both out of here. Sera!” he shouted as he rose, “answer me where are you?”
She appeared in the doorway of what he assumed was a bathroom, dragging behind her a plastic shower curtain in one hand and cradling the other to her chest. He should have fixed that for her, or at least taken the time to stem the bleeding. It hadn’t even crossed his mind when he had seen it, only that he needed to get rid of Bane. There didn’t look to be any new abrasions from what Gage had seen on her already, not that put her in good condition, but thankfully she seemed to have fared better then Chelsea.
It didn’t stop him from being angry with her though.
“What’s wrong with you?” he shouted as he ran up to her, “both of you,” he threw at Chelsea before turning back to Sera, “I’m immortal you didn’t need to save me, I was trying to save you.”
“So you’re going to be mad at us for trying to help?” Sera met his anger, “she said that monster almost killed you!”
“Sera,” Gage said grabbed her by her shoulders sternly, “I. Can’t. Die. You can, you’ve proven this already remember? You shouldn’t have taken such a risk.”
Though he had to admit that warmed him in a whole other way then the fire around him to think that she was willing to risk her own life for him. Maybe she did love him back…
“You were worth the risk,” she said so softly he thought she didn’t truly mean for him to hear her.
But he did, and this time he couldn’t help himself. He crushed his lips against hers and didn’t hold back. Sera on the other hand…she resisted. For the first time since he’d met her she refused his affections.
Maybe she didn’t love him.
She pushed away from him, “stop, this can’t happen…not…not,” she shook her head as if Gage wasn’t the only one she was fighting, but her own urges as well, “we…we need to get out of here, now.”
Right. Fire. Crumbling building. Two mortal lives.
Time to get moving.
“Come on,” he grabbed her around the waist, “we’ll go out the window.”
