Chapter 2: The Everdeens

~Few Days Later~

It's been a hard few days for my family, trying to grow into that farming life but we kept going with it and now we're all use to it, I'm starting to love these days more and more, we all have our routines, mine is, wake up at five in the morning, morning ride with Philip, feed pigs collect and feed chickens, some days shed the sheep and help mom in the kitchen, today I'm fixing dads cheap tractor that was sent to us without a motor, I was like who sends you a tractor without a motor, some people these days.

"Wrench" I say to Cato who hands me the tool

"How come your so good at fixing stuff like this?" Cato asks curiously

"Well I wanted to go into engineering when I was in college but we moved straight after we graduated" I explain

"I went into pluming" he says and I smile.

"Yes!" I exclaim as the loud engine roars through the barn, my father walks in and pats my back

"Well done son!" He happily says and I smile

"Now finish up with the animals, double check the things are closed and locked then wash up and change" dad says as I turn off the tractor

"Why?" Cato asks

"Cause the Everdeens are coming over for dinner" he says and with that Cato and I start to check everything.

~Later On~

I look at myself in the mirror styling my hair, there are two girls my age, I need to look good to get their attention so I choose to have my hair ruffled up.

"Peeta! Hurry! I need the mirror!" Cato bangs on the door and I open it and Cato literally pushes me out

"Peeta! Change her, I've got to help your father with dinner" mum says walking past, giving me Eliza who's just had a bath and is naked, I take her to her room, putting on a nappy and a dress, I pick her up and she smiles and does her little giggle. I take her downstairs, putting her in her high chair and help around the kitchen.

"Hello again Mellarks" Mr Everdeen says and I can't concentrate, I'm staring at a girl, my age, very short crop top, denim jeans with Daisy's, black flip flops and hair in a braid, she's beautiful

"And these are my three daughters, Primrose, Clove and Katniss" Mr Everdeen says, Katniss, suits her as well

"Peeta show the Everdeens into the dining room" mom says and I nod and show them to the set up table, I sit down, next to Katniss, we all say grace and dig in. While everyone is talking I decide to start a conversation with her

"So do you like it here" I say and she looks to me

"Well I have no choice" she replies and I shrug

"My family, friend and I moved here from the city" I say

"I know, I've been told" she replies

"What do you-"

"Do you ever stop talking?" She asks rudely and Clove flicks her in the head and whispers something and Katniss groans

"So Peeta what were you doing before you moved here?" Mrs Everdeen says putting some mash potato on her plate and I clear my throat

"Well I studied engineering and was going in college but we moved here" I explain

"Interesting" she says eating her food

"Katniss here is single you know" Primrose says

"Prim!" Katniss exclaims embarrassed and I smile a little looking down

"What? Just trying to you know" Prim says wriggling her eyebrows and I chuckle

"Now girls, show some manners" Mr Mellark firmly says and Katniss plays with her food, she's gonna be a hard one to win over.
