She tried to run away but the men at the hall door stopped her.

“Let her go,” Gage stumbled through the words, unable to look away from where she had just been.

“No, grab her,” someone, not the Senator but another of the men ordered.

With barely any effort Gage swung around and took the man’s head from his shoulders with one clean swipe of his blade. He heard Sera gasp but he couldn’t bring himself to look at her, didn’t want to see that disgust that would surely be there on top of what he had already seen.

“Anyone else want to argue,” he said blandly.

As an answer the men parted and he heard her footsteps running away, running away from him.

He pulled himself into the in between before he doubled over in pain as the other guards began mingling amongst themselves. Some checking on the Senator and his own dazed self, some discussing what to do about the headless body in the room. Gage? He was having one mortal experience he would have rather skipped, a broken heart. Seeing the hatred in those brown eyes, eyes that held none of the warmth he had known there. He hated himself for it and didn’t need these petty mortals seeing how he suffered.

Looking to the gun still in his hand he contemplated which really would have been worse. Only one way to find out…he aimed the gun at his chest and pulled the trigger without a second thought. Too bad all he got was an empty click. Oh well…

He tossed it away and looked over to Jerry’s haphazard figure and toed at him a few times until he came to.

“Go, go…follow her or something would you,” he motioned with his head, “she’s pretty mad at me and I would like the chance to at least explain before she gets herself killed…again.”

“And what are d’u goin’ tu do suh?”

Gage looked up to the hallway with a grimace, “I’ve got to go get her friend Lizzy before she’s processed,” he said on a sigh.

“Ah, because of ‘er sacrifice, am I cor’ect?”

Gage nodded, “I can’t let Lucifer get his hands on her, she knows too much of Sera.”

That and she really didn’t deserve to be there, most suicides didn’t. Plus it wouldn’t hurt that by saving her friend it might help him get back on Sera’s good side.

“D’u won’t make it outta of d’ere if d’u get caught, d’u know dis.”

Yeah he did, “Well then I’ll just have to make sure I don’t get caught now won’t I? Now go.”

“I’m goin’” Jerry said as his form faded into the shadows. It was faster that way without a physical body to lug around.

“I, ah, assume because I can hear you speaking that you are still here Gage and I, ahem,” the Senator cleared his throat from behind Gage, “I guess I owe you my thanks.”

Gage closed his eyes in irritation and did something very stupid, he took a swing. And Gage being Gage he didn’t miss even if he didn’t turn around. But still that distinctive gurgle followed by a double thud, one much heavier than the other, told him his aim had been true.

It certainly made him feel better to end that miserable life, but now he put himself on a clock. He needed to get to hell, find Lizzy, and get her out of there before the Senator checked in. Then there would be questions. Ones he certainly didn’t want to be stopped for when he was attempting to abduct a soul from hell.
