“You knew,” Gage sneered. It wasn’t a question.
“Of course I knew,” Bobby huffed, “did you think I was going to wait around for you or your demon to update me? I don’t do uninformed Gage, not when I’m paying a small fortune out of my own pocket. And need I remind you we both signed a contract in blood committing ourselves to this endeavor until its completion?”
Gage narrowed his eyes ever so much but made no other move as to the fight that was now brewing under his skin. The man very well could be bluffing after all, and it wasn’t like there was any mortal that could possibly keep up with Gage and his movements so how could he have a tail. And the blood thing, Gage didn’t sign in blood, couldn’t sign in blood without it eating the paper away. Matter of fact he was pretty sure Jerry brought him the parchment when he was at the Château Marmon in LA after the last job. And unless they filled their monogrammed pens with blood then chances were it was in ball point ink. But a signature was a signature…
“That you did, but if you had read the fine print then you would have seen that I have the right to determine whether the life in question is to be ended or just…redirected.”
“So then that is you’re decision,” Bobby got to his feet, “to merely redirect the one at the head of those damned vigilantes? How can you guarantee they will not relapse into old habits?”
They, they and not she, hmm…either he was playing his cards just as close to his chest as Gage was or he really was in the dark as Gage assumed.
“Oh I can assure you she won’t be trouble for anyone anymore, at least not for your kind.”
He was certain she would be trouble, and it made him grin to think about it, but not for any mortals anymore. Sera would have to go into hiding from the angels in heaven never mind the humans here on earth looking to detain her. The life she knew was over and she would be stuck in the shadows for as long as she had left…stuck with him in the shadows, because he’d probably have to lay low for a while after this too. Maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing. To be left in some isolated village or island somewhere with nothing to do but ravage Sera’s body day in and day out, to…to make love to her day in and day out-
He really needed to learn how to get his cock under control. This was another one of those moments where those thoughts of Sera were inappropriate-
“She?” Bobby demanded angrily, “so then there is a woman involved?”
Or then there’s that to deflate an erection, realizing you tipped the odds in your opponents favor. Proved his point though, the man didn’t know specifically the who of the problem.
With a sigh Gage nodded, now was as good of a time as ever to give this a shot…no matter how pessimistic Sera was, “it is. Though she doesn’t lead the…vigilantes you seek she is an integral part and the one responsible for the attempted raid on your finances.”
“On with it…demon,” Bobby spat, “human or no my patience for you grows thin.”
Gage had to take pause at that, and not just to irritate the man a little further, but because at how similar his mannerisms were to those of Lucifer’s. Funny how this disposable mortal thought himself so high and mighty that he could threaten even an all powerful immortal…or at least the servant of one. Now he was sure he wanted to kill him, just so he could watch as he was put in his place by the true lord of all that was evil.
So sure that that would be the outcome Gage took Bobby’s harsh words without refute. Instead he slowly uncrossed his legs and leaned over to place his glass carefully on the table before him, then stood and smoothed out his suit coat before meeting the man’s gaze.
