On Saturday Nicole insisted on taking me out shopping. She said we had to go to get new clothes before volleyball districts as a good-luck charm because we did that last year and made it to state. I'm sure she just wanted to hear about my date. She can't remember what she ate for breakfast let alone what we did a week before districts last year. Also she had gotten her liscence and a car a couple weeks before and had finally gotten permission from her parents to drive out of town.
She pulled up to my house about nine in the morning, beeping her horn to let me know she was there.
Man, Nicole is impatient. It's a good thing we don't have neighbor's for her to wake up. I thought before going downstairs. I breezed through the kitchen, grabbing two "french toasts to go" as my mom calls them. They're really just french toast sticks put into tupperware with a small container of syrup.
"Oh man, please tell me you brought me a french toast to go," Nicole said when I got in eyeing the food. I rolled my eyes and handed her one of the tupperwares. "I love your mom." she told me, tearing into a french toast stick as she pulled out of my driveway. I fiddled with the radio until I found a song I liked, then turned it up and ate my breakfast. By the time we got on the highway I was sleepy.
"Nicole, which mall are we going to?" I asked, wondering how long I could sleep for.
"Were going to that new one that's like 45 minutes or an hour away." she told me.
"Okay," I said, leaning back already going to sleep.
"No!" Nicole yelled, causing me to jump."If you sleep, then I'll get bored and sleepy, and if I fall asleep we'll die!"
I sighed, "Can I please take a small nap, I'm really tired."
"Oohh, did Tate keep you out late?" She asked suggestively, raising her eyebrows at me.
I rolled my eyes, "Watch the road."
"I'll take that as a yes," she sung.
"Fine, then I won't tell you about it." I crossed my arms as I spoke.
"Oh, don't be that way, it was a joke," she whined.
"I know, but I really want a nap."
"Okay, you can nap for a little while, but then I'll wake you up and you have to spill."
"That works," I said leaning back. Nicole ended up letting me sleep for about 25 minutes before she woke me up because she was bored. "What do you want me to do?" I asked her grumpily.
"Tell me about your date with Tate."
"Okay," I said shaking off the remnants of sleep before launching into what happened. Once I got into telling her I got more excited. Nicole ooohhed and ahhhed at all the right parts. We pulled off the highway right after I finished, and after a couple turns I saw the mall. It was brand new and had alot of great stores that they didn't have at the mall closer to us.
"Okay, it's 10 o'clock, and I have to be home by 3 so we have until 2. Both of us need to walk out of here with at least one new outfit," Nicole said determinedly as we were getting out of her car. Her dad had recently gotten a huge promotion and since she had already saved up enough money to mostly buy her car her dad had given her extra spending and gas money. "I think I might need new boots too."
"Oh Nic," I said using my nickname for her, "you always need new something." Nicole had always been confused on why I didn't always by everything I wanted since we could afford it. There were just some things that I wanted them, but I knew I would be fine without them and there were better things for me to put my money to sometimes.
"Not always," she said defensively, making me laugh. We went inside and Nicole immediately started dragging me to her favorite stores.
I actually had a great time. I found a really cute american flag shirt; it was white and long-sleeved with a navy and white american flag in the shape of a heart. I also found a pair of dark washed jeans that were adorable, and a new pair of running shorts. Nicole found a new sweater, a necklace, and a pair of new ankle boots. Nicole insisted that we wear our new outfits on Thursday, the last day before district weekend began. On Friday we would dress as a team before our first game that night. When (or technically if) we win we compete on Saturday for championships and then move on to sectionals.
We hadn't actually eaten while we had been shopping so we stopped at a little cafe thing. I sat at a table while Nicole went to order for us. There was a TV on with the news . The headline read; Georgian Governer Still Missing Family Members. I watched a little of the story as it explained that the governer of Georgia reported his wife and son missing several months ago, but they had not yet been found. Apparently the governer was worried that they had been kidnapped, but the police didn't belive that theory anymore, due to the fact that there was never a ransom note. They continued to speculate that maybe they were killed and how they could've been killed and still not found. As they were wrapping up the story they said that if anyone saw Mr. Cole, the governer's wife or son to call this number. They then put up pictures of the two. The pictures had just flashed up when the channel changed and Nicole sat down. I looked up at the worker who had changed the channel.
"Here you go, woah are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost!" Nicole exclaimed as she put our food down.
I swallowed and mentally shook myself. I think I have, or something close to it. I thought. The pictures, I was 98% positive they were of Tate and Eliza.
