“Thanks mom that was delicious!” Kenya extolled as she rubbed her stomach. Her mother was right, a yummy dinner would make the pain from earlier’s events disappear.
Once she had helped clean up from dinner Kenya decided to take a stroll along the shore. Most of the time she complained that being close to the shore meant she would have to go get the water from there rather than buy a hose, but today the sound of the water was calming. Off in the distance Kenya spotted a submarine with someone peeking out of top so she waved. Not many people lived around Kenya, so it was nice to see other people.
Kenya was about to turn around and go home when she noticed the submarine creeping closer. She decided to stick around and watch until it hit the shore and the woman inside jumped out and walked toward her.
The woman looked nice, about mid twenties with long brown hair and pretty green eyes. As she got closer Kenya noticed the flecks of gold throughout her eyes as well.
“Hello there!” the woman said brightly causing Kenya to break out of her trance.
“Hi,” Kenya replied less enthusiastically. She had never met this woman before and the shy side of her was starting to show.
“What’s your name?” The woman asked bending down to reach Kenya’s height, the woman was tall for what seemed to be her age and Kenya short for hers making the combination hard to hold a conversation.
“Kenya, what’s yours?” Kenya had a feeling this woman worked with the ocean somehow so Kenya wanted to make this moment last, especially since she probably wouldn’t have anymore chances.
“I’m Professor Kristen, but you can just call me Kristen,” Kenya smiled, if she was a Professor then Kristen definitely had to work for the ocean, right? Only one way to find out.
“Do you work for the ocean?” Kenya blurted quickly, the faster the question the quicker the answer would come. This time it was Kristen’s turn to smile, she loved when people asked about her job, it made her feel important.
“Yes honey, I do work for the ocean, I’m a marine biologist.” Kenya’s eyes brightened at the sound of those two words. Marine biologist.
“I’ve always wanted to do that! But I don’t have enough money to go to school,” Kenya said this time a frown appearing on her lips, the memory of that day coming into her mind.
Kristen frowned as well, this poor little girl couldn’t be what she wanted to be all because she didn’t have the money, someone needed to help her.
“Well, Kenya if you’d like and your parents say it’s okay, I would love to take you on a ride in my submarine!” Kristen say becoming more excited by the minute, she loved helping others out when they needed it more than she loved cake and ice cream.
“YES, YES, YES!” Kenya shouted surprised at how much better her day had gotten from this woman. Immediately she grabbed Kristen’s head dragged her to her mud hut. The whole way there she crossed her fingers praying that her mother would say yes.
