chapter 1

~Eighteen Years Old~

"Horan!"

"Hemmings!"

My best friend, Luke, and I make our way I each other and embrace tightly. We hadn't seen each other all summer because my parents didn't like Luke for some reason. When I introduced him to them in freshman year, there seemed to be tension between him and my dad and awkwardness between him and my mom. I didn't question it but decided that I wouldn't bring my best friend over when my parents were home.

"Classes. Let me see your schedule." Luke says, already fishing his out of his pocket. We compare them and luckily, we have three classes together. After we discover the news, we go to find out third best friend in the group, Jeanie. Unfortunately, none of us have classes with her.

The bell rings and we separate for our first class, which I know no one in. I finally arrive and see that the teacher had set out name tags for assigned seats. Oh joy.

I find mine quickly and see I'm sitting next to someone named Chase. A few more people file in and the teacher starts to introduce herself when a boy walks in. The teacher stops and glares at him as he sits beside me before continuing. I see the boy look at my name on the placement card and his eyes widen. He pokes me and I look over to meet his chocolate brown eyes.

"Are your parents Niall and Aaliyah Horan?" He whispers, glancing at the teacher.

I roll my eyes before replying,"yes. My father is the ex member of the old band One Direction. Whoop de doo. I've never met his old band members or even know their names so no, I'm not going to get you an autograph so you can sell it on the internet."

The rest of the class, Chase is silent. When it's finally over I speed out before he has a chance to talk to me and find Luke. The rest of the day goes normally. I have to walk home alone, though, because Luke has football practice and Jeanie has cheerleading try outs. Half way there, I get a text from my mom.

From: mom

Chelsea, me and your father are out on a short buisness trip. We'll be back in three days. Be safe and absolutely no parties. We love you.

-mom and dad.

I sigh and put my phone away. I walk towards my house, which is through the woods. Instead of going home, I go to what I like to call my thinking tree. It's branches provide shade and it has a stump right against the trunk like a seat. I discovered it a couple years ago and have come back almsot everyday.

I sit on the stump and put in my headphones. I turn on Angel Eyes by New Years Day ft. Chris Motionless, my favorite song. I turn it all the way up and sing along quietly. I lean back and close my eyes, enjoying the warm sun shining through the leaves.

'Don't you try to hide with those angel eyes

If you let me inside, I won't hold back this time

Such a deep disguise the devils right ins-'

My head phones are ripped out, a man's hand going over my mouth. I let out a muffled scream and I hear a deep chuckle beside my ear. "Stand up and make no sudden movements." A deep, British voice says.

I stand up slowly and a feel the man's breath on the back of my neck, sending chills through my body. The man pulls me so my back is pressed against his chest,"close your eyes, sweetheart."

I close them and I feel the man pick me up off the ground. A strong wind blows around me before I'm set back on my feet, my back still to the man. I open my eyes to see I'm standing in an unfamiliar bedroom. The man leans down towards my neck suddenly and presses a gentle kiss to it before a sharp, burning pain explodes. I let out another muffled scream as it feels as if my flesh is being ripped from my bones, the pain igniting like fire.

After a few moments, I feel myself getting lightheaded as the pain continues. I fall to my knees and the man stops what he had been doing to me. He picks me up bridal style and lays me in the bed. I feel his gaze on me and hear him curse quietly before everything goes dark.
