 Chapter 1

The sound of ratting guns rang out through the hollow trench, yelling and screaming filled the crisp air accompanied by unwelcome expositions slowly creeping closer and closer, until one explosion was to close the screams to loud and two words a medic like me dreads, “MAN DOWN!” over and over “MAN DOWN!” To some just another man for me, a queue to jump into action. I ran as fast as I could down the narrow trench, my kit bag on my back. When I found the casualty the script started “Hello soldier, I am medic Jack Holloway, where is the pain” bullets whizzed past us, He replied with a helpless groaned as he writhed on the bug and mud ridden floor, that was when I saw it, a pool of crimson red blood seeping from his chest, a direct hit, a fatal hit… You want to know the worst part of being a medic? The faces, the ones you saw laughing and smiling just hours before empty, motionless, dead…
