“I know you won’t,” Gage shouted at the door.
“Then what’s the problem?” Sera demanded.
With an angry breath through his nose Gage grabbed Sera by the arm and pulled her away from the door, “the problem is your rather extenuating circumstances beauty. I would assume you will not hold anything back from her, no?” he whispered harshly to her.
“No, of course not,” she shook her head adamantly.
“Then how are you going to explain how you got here in the first place? Or me, or Jerry or Death? How are you going to explain your death and subsequent reincarnation without telling her things no mortal should know?”
Oh shit, she hadn’t even thought about any of that.
“I…I…” Sera began, only to shake her head once more, “I can’t.” She resigned.
Nodding in agreement Gage stood from his stoop and released her, “so then we’re in agreement, she stays outside.”
But that wasn’t Sera’s point, “No, I agreed I can’t explain what happened without giving us all up,” Sera leapt away from him for the door again, “not that I wouldn’t.”
Before Gage could reach her she flung the door open and pulled Chelsea though the doorway by the lapels of her coat, slamming the door shut and putting herself between Chels and Gage as she turned to face his angry gaze. Not that she thought he would hurt Chelsea, but Sera didn’t want to take the chance to throw her right back out the door.
“You’re impossible you know that?” Gage growled at Sera before looking over her shoulder to Chelsea, “it’s good to finally meet you,” he said a little more civilly, “I’ve heard so much about you.”
One side of Sera’s mouth curled up, always the gentleman, she thought. And he caught the slight movement too, evident by how his features softened ever so much for her.
So then the danger had passed…at least this one.
“Wish I could say the same,” Chelsea grumbled, “who exactly are you anyway?”
Gage stepped closer to the pair and offered his hand around Sera to Chels, “Gage, Gage Russell.”
She eyed it but didn’t reach for his hand immediately, instead turning to Sera with a lifted eyebrow as she considered her.
“I should’ve known,” she sighed and finally accepted his greeting, “now someone want to tell me what the fuck is going on?”
Sera pulled her head back in surprise, she had never heard Chels speak in such an infuriated tone. But before she could open her mouth to ask what was wrong- besides the obvious- Gage interjected.
“Sera is going to have to explain this alone I’m afraid, I’ve got places to be remember?” he turned to her.
Right, her Uncle’s house of all places, to kill him. Somehow she just couldn’t drum up any remorse over that. Well, not for her Uncle, but for Gage…she just hoped her knew what he doing.
She did wonder for a moment how long the journey took from here to the islands when time and space no longer became a factor. It wasn’t an important question though, not now. No those and the thousands more she still had could wait until this as all over. Till they were both cleared.
“Please be careful,” she pleaded with him as he drew her in for his own embrace.
“Me?” he chuckled, “I should say the same for you.”
