Omnipresent POV
Zach watched Anya sleep peacefully with the stiff white blanket pulled up under chin her long, charcoal lashes gently resting against her almost translucent cheeks. Her shell pink lips slightly parted to let in her short shallow breaths. Her chest rose and fell with the silence of her breathing. the room was filled with that almost musical sound, and that of the heart monitor beeping next to her bed as she lay still as a corpse. Zach wanted sorely to sleep, but he was fearful of the possibility that his beloved would awaken or even that she would die in her sleep while he slumbered peacefully.
Zach's POV
I worried about Anya that night more than I can say , she was so very fragile. It was almost as if one touch could shatter and I would be left with the jagged fragments of a once beautiful, vibrant, perfect doll. Her skin was as smooth and pale as porcelain and just as cold. Every time her eyes would flutter open from her short bouts of slumber, I would rush to her side. No matter where I was in that hospital I would always rush to my baby's side.
"Kitten, you get to go home today." I whispered happily to my little girl as she lay sleeping in the early light of day. the sun streamed through the cracks in the blinds and the partially opened curtain of the window in her room. I an my hand through her hair absentmindedly, lifting each curl in my fingers and combing them out. After a few minutes of this, she finally woke up, her brown eyes still heavy with sleep and her lips curled into a lopsided smile. "Good morning, Princess, today's the big day, you finally get to go home." I said all this with a gentle smile as i looked in her chocolate eyes, searching for a hint of excitement at my words. That excitement was gone from her eyes, along with any sort of light whatsoever. Fear filled her eyes as she turned away from me shaking nervously. " Everything ok, kitten?" I asked worriedly reaching a had out to touch her shoulder. when my hand made contact with her covered shoulder, she moved away from me. I couldn't believe she was being like this. Was it something I said to her that triggered this? If I said something wrong what was it? As I pondered what I had just said, one word stood out from all the others, home. When I said it, she got this look in her eyes like I had done some great evil. I now understood, her home was where she was being hurt, that was the root of all her problems. I decided not to push her or interrogate her about her home life, but I sure as hell wasn't going to allow her to go back to that horrible place. No matter what, Anya wasn't going back to her parent's house, not if I had anything to say about it.
