I'm not really sure how long i walked, Maybe a few hours...maybe a few days. My mind stayed blank for a lot of it. I must of tripped a few times for my knees were bloodied and my hands scraped. Still i moved on. As dark came i began to regret leaving Xavier. His eyes were much sharper than mine and i had usually just held onto him and was practically dragged when the dark had come. Now I was alone. I wrapped my arms around my middle looking around quickly for something i could use as a weapon, just in case. the best i came up with was a good sized stick that i could use to clobber anything that attacked me. Feeling a bit better with the stick now in hand I kept walking. Foot steps slow and Delbert and I constantly felt as if someone was watching me. No something was watching me. After a few more yards of walking I glanced around
"Hello?" I called with no response I allowed myself to look around again before continuing through the dark bush along the water's edge still following the river. Xavier had probably started back to the village. With out me. He probably wasn't even Xavier.
Hatred began to run deep within me. If he had lied i'd make sure he was dead. No matter if i died in the process, He'd die too.
A branch cracking behind me made me stand ridged, breath coming out in short puffs as my senses sharpened slightly i spun looking into the eyes of non other than...
Xavier
"Hello Marie" He said, I gritted my teeth glaring at him
"What are you doing here Xavier?" I asked
"I am your guide....what wouldn't i be here. I've been here for the last eight hours you've been walking" he said with an eye roll like it was oh so obvious
"I thought it was obvious i didn't want to be followed" I growled out
"I thought it was obvious i wouldn't be leaving your side any time soon" he shrugged one burly wolf shoulder, and suddenly I detested him even more
"I can do this on my own"
"You don't even know what "this" is" Xavier shook his head i shrugged a shoulder
"I can figure it out by the clues"
"But you can't do this on your own" Xavier said
"why not?" I demanded standing up straight stick in hand "Why can't i go on this all alone?"
"Because, for lord's sake, Marie there's things out there that are going to target you now because of what you are becoming. That creature this morning is just a little taste. You're going to be powerful, but to stay sane you're going to need me. i refuse to allow you to go on this journey alone" He said we stared at each other for a minute, his expression father like my expression probably like a temperamental four year old. Eventually i cracked, shoulders slumping and a huff escaping my lips
"Fine, But on one condition" I held up a dainty pointer finger to show one
"And what would that be?" He asked
"I can ride on your back the rest of the way; I'm sick of walking"
