F I F T H M O N T H:

Lily and Alice were laughing. They could not remember what they were laughing at, or why it was so funny, but they tended to laugh a lot when they were together so it didn't really bother them.

"I'm starving," Lily whined as they walked through the streets of the city center, linking arms like the cheesy best friends that they were. "Let's eat."

"Yes, I feel like-" But Alice halted with a huge gasp and threw a hand to her chest.

As Lily followed her line of vision, she gasped too. Perhaps they were exaggerating, but you try seeing your boyfriend sat at a table of two with a gorgeous blonde girl.

"That's the Pizza Hut girl!" Alice whispered, turning to face Lily. "What's he doing with the Pizza Hut girl?"

"I don't know," Lily shrugged, puzzled. "He told me he was going out with a friend!"

"Friend, my arse! I saw the way she was eyeing him, the little rat." Alice started, making to march her way over to the cafe in which they had spotted James and the mystery girl, before Lily grabbed her hand.

"No." she said sternly as her friend opened her mouth to object. "We'd ruin everything if we just stormed over there with accusations. We need to be... Smart."

Alice raised an eyebrow. "Is it time for the glasses?"

Lily nodded her head, with a solemn expression. "It's time for the glasses."

Backstory on the 'glasses': humongous, black sunglasses were Lily and Alice's best friends when they wanted to people watch... Or spy on hot guys. But now, they were coming out for a whole different reason. So the girls put on the glasses and made their way towards the coffee shop before Alice stopped Lily suddenly.

"Your hair!" she said. "If there's one thing that'll blow our cover, it's your hair!"

Lily groaned. She loved her ginger locks the majority of the time, but it sure did make her stick out of the crowd. Without a second thought, she tied the mass of it into a bun on her head, before grabbing Alice's trilby hat and placing it on top.

"Better?" she asked, with eyebrows raised, even though her friend couldn't see them through the sunglasses that covered the majority of her face.

Alice just grinned, before re-linking their arms. "I wouldn't even recognize you."

As they entered the coffee shop, Lily motioned for Alice to order before carefully choosing a table two meters away from her boyfriend and his... Blonde.

She watched the two of them as she waited for Alice to arrive with the drinks, looking for any signs that James was being unfaithful. And she was quite relieved when she found none.

"Any news?" Alice whispered as she handed Lily her drink.

"Nope," she replied, shaking her head. "It all seems very platonic."

"You can never be too careful." Alice said, and Lily continued to watch James.

She couldn't hear all of their conversation, only snippets here and there, and all of it was pretty innocent. In fact, Lily was starting to feel ashamed for not trusting her boyfriend, when the girl said:

"James? What would you do if two girls were spying on us right now?"

Alice looked at Lily and the two of them stood up carefully, casually walking towards the door of the cafe.

James looked at the blonde girl, puzzled. "What d'you mean?"

The girl just laughed, before inclining her head in their direction The two girls froze, a heat rushing Lily's cheeks, but Alice was already onto it.

She lowered the glasses onto the bridge of her nose and gasped. "James Potter, is that you?"

"Oh my God!" Lily grinned, hoping the act would suffice. "It is!"

"Alice? Lily?" James smiled, standing up to greet them. "What are you guys doing here?"

"Oh you know," Lily blushed as he pecked her cheek. "The usual."

"Cool, cool." James said, before turning back to the girl. "Emma, you've met Alice. Remember? She was a part of the tricycle."

Alice and Lily exchanged confused glances but Emma simply laughed. "Oh, I remember."

"And this is Lily, my girlfriend."

"I'm Emmeline. Emmeline Vance." The girl stood up, embracing Lily with an unexpected hug, before whispering in her ear. "Everything's fine, don't worry. I'm not a threat."

"Well," said Alice biting back a laugh, after Emmeline released Lily. "We ought to get going. Things to do, people to see! Ciao!"

And with that, the two girls left the cafe quicker than you could say coffee, leaving a laughing Emmeline and a puzzled James behind.

"God, I feel like such an idiot!" Lily groaned.

Alice had burst out laughing as soon as they were out of James and Emmeline's earshot. "We are such paranoid bitches!"

The girls would never go boyfriend spying again.
