Deciding that going into the forest at night would be a death wish, {Name} and Alfred decided that it was best to wait until morning to gather food from the forest. {Name} bedded down, and Alfred sat down next to her.

"So, this sucks."

{Name} scoffed, "Tell me about it."

The sun had begun to peek above the horizon, illuminating their island in a golden light.

"Ok, You tend to the fire, I'll go grab some fruit."

Alfred looked at her for a few seconds, "You sure?"

{Name} nodded.

"You just might get hurt, you know."

{Name} rolled her eyes, "I'll be fine."

Alfred shrugged, "I trust you."

{Name} smiled at him, and entered the woods.

                                                                                             ****

In the woods, it was a bit... shadowy. {Name} hugged herself lightly, covering her bare arms with her hands, and kept walking. She eventually came to a tree. It was tall, and thin, with long frond-like leaves, and it had... bananas?

{Name} couldn't be sure.

She pulled the ponytail holder from her wrist, tied her hair back, and grabbed hold of the rough trunk. She placed her feet on the first jagged ridge on the trunk, and hoisted herself up (with supreme effort) to the next one.

Then, she slipped down, cutting her forearm on the way down. She  landed on her butt with a thud!  {Name} hissed in pain, and examined the wound. It wasn't bad, more of a scrape, but it still stung.

{Name} stood up, not wanting to hurt herself further, and tried shaking the tree. That worked after enough shaking, but the bunch that she managed to shake down hit her on the nose. Her eyes watered, but other than that, she was unharmed.

{Name} hoisted the bunch of bananas over her shoulder, and made her way back to Alfred.

                                                                                    ****

"You go, {Name}!" Alfred called when he saw what she was carrying.

{Name} gave him a weak smile, sat down at the fire (more like smoldering coals now), and sat down the bananas in the sand.

Said bananas were ever so slightly green, and barely ripe, but they would have to do.

Alfred gave her a pat on the back, and plucked a banana off of the bundle. He peeled it, and took a bite.

He made a face, but swallowed.

"It's a tiny bit unripe."

{Name} sighed, and plucked one off as well. "It can't be that bad.

{Name} peeled the banana, and took a bite.

It was bitter, but not unlike any banana she had eaten before.

"They're fine. A bit bitter, but they're ok."

Alfred nodded, and took another bite of his banana, {Name} doing the same.

They finished, and {Name} entered the cave. She took in what Alfred had set up while she was gone.

He had set up some palm fronds on a ledge, just barely big enough for a small person to lay on. {Name} was pretty sure she could fit, but not too sure about Alfred.

Alfred entered the cave as well, sitting down on the ledge. He looked at {Name} quickly before standing up again, and putting his hands on her shoulders.

This took her aback.

"Uh, Alfred?"

"{Name}, whatever we do, we're going to get off this island alive."

{Name} looked at her scraped arm, and then back at Alfred.

His expression was that of determination.

"I know it."

{Name} gave him a weak smile.

"I'll be the hero that saves you."

{Name} looked at her feet, blushing lightly, though she didn't know why. She nodded, and pulled from his grasp, back into the forest for supplies.

                                                                                       ****

{Name} walked though the forest, the wind, the occasional call of a bird, and the crunch of her feet on the underbrush.

{Name} found a fallen tree, and sat down, placing her head in her hands.

Survival? How would they get off? Could a plane see their "SOS"? {Name} sure hoped so. She bit her lip, and squeezed her eyes shut. Would  she live? Would Alfred?{Name} curled up in a ball on the log, hugging her knees tightly to her chest.

She sat like this, recollecting her thoughts, for about ten minutes. Or was it fifteen? {Name} didn't know. The hopelessness of the entire situation sunk in heavily. She blinked back tears, her finger nails pressing into her palms and leaving crescent moon shapes. Her arm scrape stung. She squeezed her eyes shut again, and began to cry. It was soft at first, small, silent tears, then louder sobs, and finally sobs that racked her entire body, her shoulders shaking heavily. Tears splattered onto her dirty shorts, and dripped off her chin.

{Name} was terrified.

                                                                                          ****

Alfred stood from his spot in the cave, and began to advance towards the forest. {Name} had been gone for a while, and he was beginning to worry.

As he entered the wooded area, he began to hear something. Was it... crying? Alfred sped up, and soon came to {Name}. She was sitting on a fallen log, her face buried in her knees. Her shoulder were shaking with heavy sobs.
It felt like a dagger had been twisted in Alfred's heart. He immediately rushed over, and sat down next to her. he hesitated before pulling her to him. She froze, and then let out a sigh. She gripped his coat as she cried. Alfred whispered sweet nothings into her ear, and stroked her hair.

She cried until she could cry no more, and all that came out was sobs, but no tears. Alfred held her close, comforting her.

"Lets head back, ok?"

{Name} nodded, and gripped his coat. Alfred lifted her into his arms bridal style, and carried her back to camp. He felt something... odd. It was warm, and fuzzy, and is chest felt tight. He brushed it off. But he didn't know {Name} felt it too.
