The Night Fate Turned Red
The night was drowning in darkness.
There was no moon.
No stars.
Only the sound of a child's desperate cries echoing through the forest.
"Maasa..."
Tiny footsteps stumbled across the damp stone floor.
A little boy ran through the darkness, tears streaming down his cheeks.
"Maasa, aap humein chhod kar nahi jaa sakti..."
His voice broke.
"Hum aapke bina nahi reh paayenge..."
Before him lay a woman.
Her royal garments were stained with blood.
Her breathing had become shallow.
Yet despite the pain burning through her body, she slowly lifted her trembling hand and touched the child's cheek.
The boy immediately held her hand between both of his palms.
"Maasa..."
The woman looked at him.
There were tears in her eyes.
But she refused to let them fall.
She knew that if she allowed herself to cry, she would lose the strength to do what had to be done.
Her voice was barely a whisper.
"Aapko jeena hoga..."
The child shook his head violently.
"Nahi..."
"Humare liye."
The woman swallowed the pain in her throat.
"Hamare inteqaam ke liye."
The boy stared at her through his tears.
She gently wiped his cheek.
"Aur woh bhi..."
Her voice trembled.
"...akele."
The child clutched her hand tighter.
"Maasa, humein dar lag raha hai."
The woman closed her eyes for a moment.
Then she whispered-
"Dar ko apni taaqat banana."
A sudden sound came from outside.
The woman immediately opened her eyes.
Someone was coming.
She pulled the child closer.
"Jao."
The boy refused.
"Hum aapko chhod kar nahi jaayenge!"
"Jao!"
For the first time, there was command in her voice.
The child froze.
The woman looked at him one final time.
"Ek din..."
She struggled to breathe.
"...tumhe sach pata chalega."
A tear finally escaped from the corner of her eye.
"Tab yaad rakhna..."
Her fingers loosened.
