"Eddie bear! Come back here! Come back right this instant!" Eddie hears his mom calling as he runs into the forest. Although he was never allowed out, his mom has specifically told him to never enter the forest if he ever did leave. However, seeing as she had lied about his pills, he is now taking everything from her as a lie until proven otherwise.
From this point forward, Eddie was sure to not believe a single thing from his mother. As Eddie continues on into the forest he starts to get thinking.
"...maybe Mommy was right..." he mumbles to himself before immediately shaking his head "no! I can't think like that! She's a big, fat, liar!" he shouts to himself, sticking to his word he continues on into the forest. As he's walking, Eddie looks around, afraid of even the birds chirping. "Just keep going... don't look up... they're just birds, they're harmless..." he continues on, trying not to have a panic attack. Sure, Eddie had his inhaler, however, if he wanted to last long out in the forest he knew he'd have to start rationing whatever food and water he had. He also knew he especially needed to ration with his inhaler because he could realistically die without that.
"AGH! ...Mommy...?" Eddie screams, after not paying attention and walking right into a tree, falling backwards onto the ground. He then got up and kept walking, not sure of where he was headed, but he knew one thing and one thing only. He was not going back to his mom. Not now, not ever.
Meanwhile, a boy is running around the forest, although he has yet to cross paths with Eddie. This boy's name is Richie Tozier. Richie here didn't have a reason to be in the forest, he's just playing around. For a boy without friends or siblings and with parents that are always busy with "work" (which was code for filling the house with smoke while watching TV and telling him to go outside and play, even when they couldn't put enough food on the table), Richie needs at least some way to entertain himself, and that way has ended up being in the forest since he was little, dangers and all. Since he's been running around that forest since he was little, he practically has the layout memorized and had always noticed when there were changes in it.
Today, as he's just peacefully running around, Richie spots a patch on the ground next to a tree that had seemingly been messed with. With a closer look, he noticed that the only possible explanation is that someone was here. With that, Richie knows now what to do with his day. He is going to find out who is in "his" forest.
Eddie has been walking for some time now, and he starts to notice its getting dark. "Oh no..." he says, scared of whats to come with the night, and it doesn't help that he is seriously scared of the dark and has never been alone in the dark. Despite all this, all Eddie can do is keep walking. Though, as it gets darker and darker, the panic sets in more and more. Eddie starts to frantically walk in hopes of finding some form of light or even just a shelter of some kind.
It's now when Eddie starts to overthink everything and start his own downfall. "...I can't get back home now... ...what if I never find somewhere to go and I get stuck out here forever..!" Eddie stammers out before promptly taking a puff of his inhaler. As he walks, well, more runs now, he shoves all the branches and things out of his way, ignoring the small splinters and cuts that he is getting from them. Eddie runs and runs before slamming into something... or well, someone. That someone just happened to be Richie Tozier.
