*Chapter 1 - The Promise*
_By Believa Lewis_
We were seven and eight when he promised me forever.
I didn't know what forever meant then. I thought it meant we would share the same mango tree, drink water from the same sachet, and walk to school holding hands until we were old.
Div didn't hold hands. He pulled my uniform when I walked too slow, and called me "trouble." But when the other boys laughed at my packed gari, he ate it all and said it was sweet.
That afternoon under the mango tree, he took a small blue bead from his pocket and pressed it into my palm.
"Keep this. When we grow up, I will find you."
I still have the bead.
He just doesn't remember the promise.
