Not only is her theory possible, it's inevitable. Fate seems to have aligned for this purpose like it was the unavoidable evolutionary destination. Preliminary testing is promising. She is ready to bring the process into trial on human life.
Well, no, she's not ready. She'll never be ready. But no progress will be made at all if she stops now. She must continue. She must.
So, she writes. Not in ink or even blood, but in pure magic. A silver script flows forth from her quill, a luminescence that only eyes like hers will ever comprehend.
Phase 1 - Entry #1
Subject #1: Five-year-old female. Father descends from a squib line, six generations removed. Mother is a halfblood.
Subject #2: Six-year-old male. Mother descends from a squib line, two generations removed, muggle father.
Subject #3: Eight-year-old female. No traceable magical heritage, but has an older brother confirmed to be a muggleborn wizard.
Subject #4: Nine-year-old male. No traceable magical heritage, but has a twin who is exhibiting possible signs of accidental magic.
Subject #5: Eleven-year-old male. Both parents are pureblood, the child was born a squib, confirmed as of this September.
Subject #6: Seven-year-old male. Both mother and father descend from squib lines, removed one and three generations respectively.
Subject #7: Four-year-old female. No traceable magical heritage.
Seven subjects for the first trial. A good number. Her arithmancy calculations to the trial's odds have been favorable, and anchoring the number of participants in the most magically sound symbol can't hurt. She wants to do more, cast a wider spread to account for more variables, but until she knows what long term effects this could have on the children she can't risk it in good conscience. Seven children, seven lives. It's already enough to wager. Too much. But it's her duty to try.
Never in her life has she understood Isadora Morganach more than right now. The thought frightens her.
Subjects 1, 3, 5, and 6 and their families have full disclosure of the trial and it's risks. 5's father even sought me out and demanded his son take part. Unbreakable Vows have been sworn to ensure the trial's confidentiality. These four shall be part of one control group: to see how more actively engaging with and encouraging the effects of the trial shapes the results.
Subjects 2, 4, and 7 are blind for the sake of the trial's control groups. Through them I will measure how to allow passive and natural development with minimal interference affects progress. Additionally, I am unable to inform the parents/guardians of the nature of this experiment without breaking the Statute of Secrecy.
Assessment intervals have been established in schedule for each, barring any unexpected developments that demand check-ins beyond these points.
For now I will watch, I will wait, and most importantly: I will hope.
For Magic - SD
. . . . .
Four weeks later her hand shakes as she holds the quill above the page. It's early days still but already she feels a weight of exhaustion. The toll of this on her, on the Subjects, is proving immense in more ways than one.
Steeling herself, she writes in mournful determination.
Phase 1 - Entry #21
I was careful not to raise my hopes too high, but even still. To say this is a devastating loss is an understatement. I thought I was prepared for what failure would mean, and on an intellectual level I was. But experiencing it is another thing entirely. Though I grieve, and though certainly the family grieves, from this loss there is much to be learned.
