The first thing Kaien D. Voss learned about his second life was that being reborn into the world of *One Piece* sounded far better than it actually was.

There were no Straw Hats.

No Devil Fruits falling conveniently into his hands.

No legendary swords waiting in a cave.

No mysterious old master who immediately recognised his hidden potential.

There was just hunger.

Cold.

And an island that smelled permanently of rust, smoke, and seawater.

Kaien sat atop the broken hull of an ancient merchant vessel and stared across the scrapyard below.

Mountains of metal covered almost half the island.

Broken cannons.

Bent swords.

Snapped masts.

Damaged anchors.

Pieces of old Marine ships.

Fragments of pirate vessels.

Anything valuable had already been stripped away years ago.

Everything else ended up here.

Voss Island.

A tiny, barely mapped island somewhere in the North Blue.

Population?

Maybe eight hundred.

Important people?

None.

Marine base?

None.

Pirates?

Unfortunately, plenty.

Kaien exhaled slowly.

He was eleven years old.

Thin.

Undersized.

And currently holding half a loaf of stale bread like it was treasure.

Considering he had not eaten since yesterday morning, it practically was.

"Could've been worse."

He took a bite.

The bread was so hard his jaw hurt.

Kaien grimaced.

"Could've been reborn somewhere in the New World."

He leaned back against the rusted metal behind him.

Eleven years.

Eleven entire years since he had opened his eyes inside this world.

At first, he had thought everything was a dream.

Then came the newspapers.

Marine Headquarters.

Pirates.

The Grand Line.

Devil Fruits.

And finally—

Gol D. Roger.

That had confirmed everything.

He had been reborn into *One Piece*.

The problem was that knowing the world didn't magically make him strong.

Kaien knew Haki existed.

Wonderful.
