Hotel Europa — Venice, Italy (3:14 AM)
There was only one bed, and Peter Parker was currently sitting on the floor, leaning his back against the side of it while wrapping a bloody bandage around his knuckles.
"You're a terrible liar, Parker," I whispered from under the duvet, watching his shoulders tense up in the dark.
He paused, pulling the knot tight with his teeth before looking up at me through messy brown curls. His brown eyes were soft, tired, and entirely too honest for someone who claimed he had just "tripped on the stairs."
"I know," Peter murmured softly, offering a weak, lopsided smile. "I'm working on it."
I rolled my eyes, pulling the covers back and swinging my legs over the side of the mattress. I should have stayed in bed. I should have gone back to sleep and let Flash handle his own petty high school drama in the morning.
Instead, I sat down on the cold floor next to him, grabbing the roll of medical tape out of his hands.
"Give me that," I muttered, trying to sound annoyed, even as my hands gently took his. "You're doing it wrong."
As I wrapped his knuckles, I felt his gaze fixed on my face, warm and steady. I didn't know what kind of secret trouble Peter was constantly getting himself into, but as he let out a quiet sigh of relief beside me, I realized something terrifying.
I was way past the point of no return.
