Evalaine
The smell of rain filled the air, the dark clouds seemed to be rolling closer as the wind whipped around my face. Was I supposed to be out and about right now? Nope, not at all. I needed the air. I got tired of always feeling trapped.
There's a good reason for why I wasn't allowed out at certain times but even then my own home started to feel more like a prison.
The rebel attacks were starting to get worse and worse so it was understandable to want to keep me safe but honestly the more rules they gave, the more I wanted to do something to break them all.
Dreamwalkers were also starting to become more dangerous and it has been confirmed as of recently that they can MAKE other dreamshifters. I used to think they were cool til I heard about them killing people inside their dreams and them being dead in the real world too.
I found the concept terrifying, I was almost too scared to sleep... ALMOST. I loved my beauty sleep.
The sound of rustling behind me spooked me out of my calm state. "Who's there?" I asked, my eyes wide. My fingers fiddled with my sheath strapped to my side, my knife almost sliding out of my grasp as I held it in trembling hands. If someone actually attacks, im fucked. I thought, trying to keep myself as calm as possible.
A figure started moving closer making my heart pound so wildly it felt like it might jump out of my chest.
"Evalaine, you're not supposed to be out right now." A deep voice said. I let out a breath when I recognized the voice. It was Hunter.
He was my personal guard, I had snuck past him earlier to come outside. I don't know how he found me but I was kind of glad he did, however him giving me that big of a scare showed why I probably shouldn't go out alone.
"You scared me Hunter." I growled, putting my knife back into its sheath with slightly shaky hands. I took a deep breath and reminded myself that I was safe and I wasn't in danger right now but I could feel the adrenaline pumping through me right now.
"Good, perhaps you'll have learned your lesson. You know better than to go out...especially without an escort." He lectured and I rolled my eyes. I could hear Hunter sigh as I turned away.
Hunter was attractive. Blonde hair, brown eyes that you could drown in, tall, muscular and lean. It almost made me feral with how his shirt clung to his biceps and was tight against his chest.
I couldn't allow myself to feel attracted to him. It was forbidden but I couldn't stop the lustful thoughts that always went to mind when he showed up like...that. That deep voice did things to me.
I shook my head as if that would clear my thoughts and turned to look at him. "Let's just go back before this turns into a 3 hour long lecture." I huffed, walking past him and towards the castle.
I could almost feel him rolling his eyes as he followed closely behind me. We didn't speak for the duration of the walk back. It was probably the most uncomfortable amount of silence I've ever had to deal with and I've dealt with mothers' tea parties.
As we approached the door to the castle, the hallway that led to endless rooms in sight through the open door. "Evalaine...wait." Hunter said, breaking the silence.
A/N: This is currently a work in progress and I would love any feedback you would like to give! Thank you!! <3
